2 A Note on the format of the 2018 Auction Catalog Shell images often appear their best on a black background. Pictures in many books and publications are evidence to this best color selected to showcase shells. However, a drawback to the format is it consumes buckets of expensive ink when one choses to print the catalog for study, reference and note taking at the auction. I am using a white background in order that we might save a little ink. The white pages also make it easier to take notes. In some instances, for example a white shell I employ a black box to as the specimen becomes lost too easily on white. It s the old Polar Bear in a snowstorm effect. In other instances it simply makes sense to utilize a black background. However the majority of the pages remain in white. John Timmerman Lead Auctioneer/Catalog Designer Catalog 1 features shells. Many of the shells in this first edition were donated to the auction by families of deceased club members Peggy Privette, Peggy Wilkerson and Carl and Janet Truckner. Through these generosities we all stand a chance to add some of these shells that graced their parent s cabinets to be added to ours. Look for some very special shells personally collected by club members from the far reaches of the earth s oceans. Register To participate, one must register at the meetings either Friday night or Saturday before the auction begins. You will receive a bidder number and a card to hold up to indicate a bid. Bidding Bidding for most lots will start at $1.00 and progress in $1 increments. Bidders are welcome and encouraged to call out a higher amount or higher increments. For example an opening bidder may bid $50 for a lot they have a particular interest in and continue to bid the lot up in more than $1 increments if/when competitors step up to the challenge. For some lots a reserve may be set. Bidding will begin at that minimum reserve and if there are no bids the lot will be withdrawn from further consideration. 2
