1 WESTERN CANADA RUG HOOKING EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (WCRHEA) Teacher s Accreditation Program Mission Statement of WCRHEA The purpose of the WCRHEA is to train and educate teachers and judges in the fibre art of traditional rug hooking. We will also work to promote an awareness and appreciation of traditional rug hooking in western Canada by supporting both rug schools, and rug exhibitions. Our intent is to be as inclusive as possible, embracing both the traditions of quality craftsmanship while exploring the boundaries of artistic possibilities.
2 Welcome to the Western Canada Rug Hooking Education Association Teacher s Accreditation Program. Congratulations on your decision to take your rug hooking skills to the next level by becoming a teacher, or by further developing your teaching skills. We are proud to be able to offer you this teacher s training program. In developing the program, we were looking to build on the excellent teacher training programs already available and to offer something more. Our goal is to distinguishes ourselves by not only supporting those who have a desire to share their love of rug hooking by becoming teachers, but to educate beyond our Teacher Accreditation program by offering a self-study professional development program that will further assist teachers in their personal, business, and artistic development. It is also our hope that our teacher accreditation program will eventually be offered by correspondence to better serve those who live in remote communities, much as Pearl McGown's correspondence course did decades ago. Distance education is the wave of the future, taking education beyond physical boundaries. In summary, we hope to provide benefits to our teachers by going beyond the initial production of beginner teachers, to offering opportunities for professional development and by removing the physical walls around rug hooking teacher education. Hopefully, this will excite both new and established teachers to participate in the WCRHEA Teacher Program. Sincerely, WCRHEA Teacher Training Committee Marlene Bartlett Heather Fox Tanya Graham
