1 How to Use this Cheat Sheet: This cheat sheet is designed to help you narrow down recommended Bemis Sewfree products based on critical information about the bonded application. Rating of the products is in relation to others in same product family. For example: is considered soft when compared to other Sewfree adhesives. Exoflex3900 is considered soft when compared to other functional films. is considered soft when compared to other SRT tapes. (Note: the purpose of this document is to recommend best possible products based on available information, it is strongly recommended to thoroughly test adhesive candidates before making final selection.) The goal is to create a list of 1-3 adhesives that meet customer requirements. First, gather as much information as possible about the bonded application. Table 1 outlines the critical information to collect. Next, review the section and circle the appropriate category for modulus and hand-feel, recovery, glue line temperature (GLT), and wash resistance. For example, you might select soft for modulus and best for recovery. Adhesives that appear the most frequently will be the best choice. Adhesive Selection Cheat Sheet 1

Certain garment types have common characteristics that can be used to narrow down the list of potential adhesives, especially if other information is missing or hard to get. Some examples: Outerwear garments are typically: Constructed of non-stretch woven fabrics Have water-proof finishes Require 40 C wash Performance wear garments are typically: Constructed of mid-weight stretchy knit fabrics materials may be heat-sensitive Require 60 C wash Intimate wear garments are typically Constructed of lightweight stretchy fabrics Materials may be heat-sensitive Require 40 C wash Fabric Is the fabric knit or woven? This information guides the selection of an adhesive with the best fit modulus and recovery properties. Knit fabrics should use adhesives that have soft or medium modulus and good or best recovery properties. Woven fabrics could use adhesives with a variety of modulus and recovery properties; additional information is needed before making a determination. Adhesive Selection Cheat Sheet 2

3 CATEGORY Specific information needed Why this information is important Fabric Composition What the fabric is made of and whether the fabric has any coatings or finishes Example: 90% Polyester, 10% Spandex Fabric composition can affect multiple adhesive characteristics. Some examples: Spandex content gives an indicator of how stretchy the fabric is, helping guide the modulus and recovery needs of the application. For natural fabrics like cotton, Bemis offers specific products. Coatings and treatments require adhesives that support chemical bonding. Fabric Weight Measure of the fabric weight (in Gram/m²) This unit also referred to as GSM Help with recommending proper adhesive gauge. Heavy fabrics may require thicker adhesive. Generally : Fabrics below 50 GSM are considered light weight Fabrics in GSM range are mid weight Fabrics greater than 100 GSM are heavy weight. Bonded Application Heat Seal Machinery Wash Requirements Description of the bonding application and what part of the garment is being bonded What type of equipment they have for bonding What water temperature they will use to wash the garment In combination with fabric type, this information helps to select best adhesive formula. For example: If bonding a zipper on a stretchy fabric, the adhesive does not need to stretch or recover a lot since zippers do not stretch. However, if using Sewfree on a hem of garment using stretchy fabric, a soft, stretchy adhesive is more appropriate. When customers are using continuous machine, they need Sewfree adhesives that activate at lower glue line temperature. For example: It is difficult to activate using continuous machine, but or High Recovery products can be activated using continuous machines. Higher wash temperatures can potentially cause delamination issues. It is important to understand how hot the wash conditions are likely to be. Adhesive Selection Cheat Sheet 3

6 Glue Line Temperature: This table ranks adhesives based on minimum required GLT to activate Our Sewfree Adhesive Family OT100 ET315 OT523 RS3000 Exoflex 3900 Our Functional Film Family SRT Family Table above indicates minimum GLT required to activate that adhesive. 7 Wash Resistance: This table ranks Sewfree products based on wash resistance requirements. 40 C 60 C Sewfree Adhesive Family 3914* 3916* 3918* 3296 Our Functional Film Family OT100 OT523¹ TL644 ET315 Exoflex3900 RS *, 3916* and 3918*: The adhesive formula on these products pass 60 C wash, however on certain fabrics, due the low gauge adhesive on these formulations, these two product may not pass 60C wash. OT523¹: Extra adhesive thickness on OT523 helps it pass 60 C wash requirements on certain fabrics. All existing SRTs can withstand 60 C wash. Adhesive Selection Cheat Sheet 7
