The unit standard is for designers, cutters and production managers with responsibility for the selection and usage of materials. Prerequisite: Unit 3336, Demonstrate knowledge of footwear terms, components and groups, or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills. Evaluation of documentation and visit by NZQA and industry. A centrally established and directed national moderation system has been set up by Competenz. Socking is included as lining in this unit standard.
2 2 of 5 Elements and Performance Criteria element 1 Describe non-leather materials used in. 1.1 Non-leather material types are identified. woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, combined fabrics, coated fabrics. 1.2 Materials are divided into main purpose classes. outsides, linings and/or counter lining, interlining, stiffeners, toepuffs. element 2 Establish material properties of non-leather fabrics for use on outsides. coated fabrics, non-coated fabrics. 2.1 Surface coating is established. poly vinyl chloride (PVC) blown and non blown; polyurethane (PU) blown and non blown. 2.2 Composition and structure of substrate are established. bonded fibre, woven, knitted. 2.3 Fibre of fabric is established. natural, synthetic, mixed.
