10 Visual Recognition of Biofouling Invasive marine species (IMS) Ships hulls are a main vector for the introduction of IMS (75 %) Manual inspection - only spot checks by divers with cameras. Need to enforce new regulatory standard for allowable vessel biofouling (the Craft Risk Management Standard) - compulsory for all vessels entering New Zealand from Goal: intelligent swarms of underwater vehicles autonomously scanning hulls & other marine applications

11 Robofish Aim: an underwater vehicle to traverse the coastal waters of Kaikoura at depths up to 20 m and collect at least three water samples in hard-to-reach places with minimal disturbance to the native marine life, as required by the Department of Biological Sciences The robot has to be in the form of a fish of similar size to the natural species in the operational environment, namely Kahawai and Butter fish (chosen size is 400mm long) Features will include: propulsion with a flexible 3D printed tail, wireless video feed buoyancy control and underwater sampling Detailed design of fish robot
