2 Automotive Council UK Approach: The Automotive Council was formed in 2009 : To strengthen and promote sustainable growth of the automotive sector in the UK through enhanced dialogue and co-operation between UK government and automotive industry Define, enable & deliver the right technology technologies Optimise business environment for the UK Automotive sector Address skills challenges facing the sector A continuous value creation cycle enabled through co-operation and team work

11 Intelligent Mobility Technology Road Mapping 12 key challenges to improve mobility in UK Developing solutions of these challenges will meet UK travelers needs and unlock potential revenue opportunities Solutions will need to include a combination of Access, Automation, Demand & Supply and Integration Innovative Road mapping thought leadership process initiated based on TN key challenges Intelligent Mobility & Autonomous Vehicle technology focus accelerating at an unprecedented rate. Major progress & clarity emerging supported by Government policy and stimulus.

12 Autonomy During the next decade, we see autonomous vehicles as having as significant an impact as Ford s moving assembly line did 100 years ago - Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company CEO will mass produce AV for ride sharing applications by 2021 w/ level 4 autonomy. 2021

13 Growth of Vehicle Software TREND: FUNCTIONAL GROWTH IS GOING TO CONTINUE AND WILL EVEN ACCELERATE Today s vehicle typically has 400+ features, ~2000 functions, 20k software components & 100m lines of code Today s cars have roughly seven times more code than a Boeing 787 airliner! Module software complexity grew by factor between 3 & 7 from 08 to 11 Software increasingly provides the user experiences which differentiates car brands

14 Today Near Term New Dawn Growth of Vehicle Electronics Autonomous vehicle module 2kW power Vehicle centralised E/E Architecture Domain centralised E/E Architecture Distributed E/E Architecture - Cloud computing Some vehicle functions will move to the cloud - Sensor fusion & very powerful, centralised computing sites, an enabler for Autonomous Vehicles - Functions are integrated within modules & powerful domain ECU s provide X-zone functions - Connected car with on-board modem - Each function has its own ECU Modules moving from one function / module to many functions within a single module. Very complex X-zone domain functions drive more powerful integration sites - connected car realised. Sensor fusion & powerful centralised computing sites deliver Autonomous functions. Seeking solutions to unite Industry, Academia & Government to deliver a joined up ecosystem to promote innovation and industrialisation. 1 s & 0 s take over the automotive world!: The balance between traditional mechanical skills for body, chassis and P/T and EE skills are being turned on their head, we need to prepare for the new world: - The value of electronics & software will be the dominant cost of the vehicle within a smatter of years, for high series vehicles this is already happening. - The features which customers want and those which provide differentiation between brands are increasingly being driven by the EE domain Power Train electrification at all voltage levels, becomes increasingly important to deliver CO2 roadmaps for all regions of the globe As we move into Smart Mobility & Cloud Computing, software is now Beyond The Car There are major opportunities to engage with the auto industry : New Dawn for software to support autonomous mega module functions Skill sets transition. Growth within the normal automotive supply base The future of the Automotive industry has a strong dependence upon success in the EE domain
