BG : Future innovative offshore economy Specific challenge: With the expected intensification of activities offshore, it is necessary to overcome a series of technological, operational, environmental challenges Scope: Identify, review and analyse the technological and environmental challenges in the offshore large scale industrial activities and identify the most promising business models. Also set-up a mechanism associating the key stakeholders involved in Blue economy to propose appropriate large scale pilot initiatives to demonstrate feasibility of the most promising business models. Expected Impact: Prepare the ground for demonstration activities for the most promising offshore activities to support the Blue Growth Type of action: CSA, EUR million = 2M 9
BG : Sub-sea technologies Specific challenge: Working at high depths (down to 6,000m), or in extreme conditions (Arctic conditions, high pressure and temperature...) requires ability to conduct challenging unmanned underwater operations (observation, data collection, transmission, complex industrial operations, ) Scope: Innovative design of new underwater vehicles and specialised robots and/or their main components. If relevant, proposals could go to the stage of demonstrators or prototypes. Areas of interest are: ROVs, AUVs, deployment, recovery and docking systems, sub-sea factory machineries Expected Impact: Enable sustainable, cost-efficient and safe offshore operations by European industries in extreme conditions Type of action: Research and innovation Indicative budget range: 8-10M 10
AREA 3: Ocean observations systems and technologies (30 M ) BG Atlantic Ocean Observations (Research and action- 20M ) BG : Acoustic and Imaging Technologies (Research and action- 10M ) 11
BG Atlantic Ocean Observations Specific challenge: Development and deployment of an Integrated Atlantic Ocean Observing System (IAOOS), building on existing capacities on both side of the Atlantic for systematic data collection to improve knowledge base and predictive capacity Scope: Fill gaps in observations to support the understanding of the ocean process at the level of the entire basin and reduce the costs of in-situ ocean observation. R&I to underpin full and open discovery and access to ocean observations and facilitate interoperable exchanges Expected Impact: Increase temporal and geographic coverage of observational data in the Atlantic Ocean. Integrate standardised in-situ key marine observations into process models and forecast systems. Type of action: R&I Indicative budget range: 15-20M /proposal) 12
BG : Acoustic and Imaging Technologies Specific challenge: Further improve performance of acoustic and imaging technologies for characterisation of the marine environment with respect to good environmental status or underpin sustainable marine economy. Scope: Develop innovative technologies to improve performance and costefficiency of underwater acoustic and imaging sensors and survey systems (acoustic detection, imaging, LIDAR). Expected Impact: Strengthen competitiveness and safety of European maritime industry, support the marine, maritime and fisheries policies (MSFD & CFP, including detection of marine litter); Support marine science and ocean characterisation Type of action: Research and innovation actions Indicative budget range:4-6m /proposal) 13
