1 CAS Section 7 Facilities/Technology/Equipment Team member comments and recommendation Ratings sub-sec The program has adequate, suitably located facilities, technology and equipment to 7.1 support its mission. ND NR AVG Residence survey suggests that areas of technology would receive a lower rating; this influences the panel ratings Wireless connectivity, speed issues, USD Secure slow, Use USD even though it doesn't save preferences; would like more computers available in the valley housing areas; students, (especially Freshmen)congregate around big TVs; High def TV's not running well on low def cabling; laundry dispensers are not consistent(cash, debit); machines don't work well; card won't work in one machine but works in another machine (based upon discussion with students, student surveys and in meeting with the departments it appears as though many problems are not being reported and repeated problems are work-around by the students. The departments providing these services think that everything is running good and the students think there is a problem that is well know but not being in addressed); The 'Tie Break' computing software is not well known and as such not used by students; 4 sub-sec 7.2 Program facilities, technology and equipment are evaluated regularly. ND NR AVG. yes, facilities 2 sub-sec 7.3 Facilities, technology and equipment are in compliance with relevant legal and institutional requirements that ensure access, health, safety and security of students and other users. 2 sub-sec 7.4 Facilities accommodate programs goals and meet student needs for safety and security. ND NR AVG. Student comments support the idea that they feel safe on campus. yes 4 sub-sec 7.5 Spaces are provided for study, office functions, lounging, recreation and group meetings. ND NR AVG. Certain older facilities including Maher, Camino and Founders have very limited areas for group meetings etc. This fact influenced the panel rating. 3 3 Concerning study space there is more than enough in Manchester Village - and it is utilized. In areas of recreation students would like to have scheduling access to know when fields and outdoor recreation areas are scheduled, they report having difficulty finding space for pick-up games or having to leave fields when sports teams or other organized activity are scheduled. The university should place a high priority on space for student outdoor activity during master planning. 4 sub-sec 7. Individual rooms are adequately furnished to accommodate all assigned occupants. Student comments support a high rating in this area. yes 4 sub-sec 7.7 Facilities are accessible, clean, attractive, reasonably priced, properly designed, wellmaintained, comfortable and conducive to study, and have safety and security features. 3 The panel believed that this questions included too many specific areas; as such we rated each segment of the question separately. Very clean, accessible, and conducive to study. Concerning price, students believe that student perspective will vary significantly amongst students; see 2011 student survey results. ND NR AVG. Many/most areas of student housing do their own cleaning. Student comments support the assertion that the bldgs are very clean. 4 5 x 2.5 and 2x3 sub-sec 7.9 Space is provided for custodial work and storage. ND NR AVG. Panel ratings reflect the opinion expressed by the custodial/general services manager. sub-sec 7.10A A maintenance plan is in place that addresses preventative maintenance. Students note that some of the elevator state certificates of operation are expired. sub-sec 7.12 Waste disposal and recycling are managed in accordance with all applicable regulations. ND NR AVG. Students expressed concern about recycling stating that when the garbage and recycle materials are picked up the two bins are mixed.. sub-sec 7.13 Grounds are attractively maintained and safe. ND NR AVG. 4 sub-sec 7.14 Access control to buildings is addressed and provides safety to residents. ND NR AVG.

5 Students said that sometimes they need to access study areas in other residence halls but the current system of security access prohibits this access. 4 sub-sec 7.15 Student housing construction, where applicable, is based on student current and projected needs. ND NR AVG. Students expressed an interest in being involved in the schematic design phase of student housing development. sub-sec 7.1 A master plan for maintaining and renovating all facilities exists. ND NR AVG. Panel ratings were impacted by the fact that the university does not have a current master plan; as such effective RL master planning would be impractical. 2 4 Question Member Comments A How are facilities, technology and equipment inventoried and maintained? MCO process and facilities plan and $150k for technology. Sightlines review - multi year go forward and also done on an as needed basis. Inventoried annually and checkout procedures in place. Public safety accident reports environmental health and safety checks (EBI satisfaction results) meet all codes/legal requirements and also convert space to meet individual needs. Students Comments
