3 Introduction Mechatronics is one of the ten emerging technologies slated to transform the world. Growth in demand of products from mechatronics sector is increasing exponentially. One of the sectors, where mechatronics has become an integral part is the automotive sector. Companies are increasingly looking to automate its manufacturing processes and reduce manpower costs. Today, there is an ongoing requirement to stay up-todate with the latest technologies and development of software protocols in this sector.

4 The term Mechatronics was coined from mechanics and electronics. The term was used over 40 years ago, when Japanese engineer Tetsuro Mori combined the words "mechanical" and "electronic" to describe the electronic control systems that Yaskawa Electric Corp. was building for mechanical factory equipment. The field of Mechatronics is the synergic combination of mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer science and information technology, which includes control systems used to design products with built-in intelligence.

5 Today, Mechatronics is used all around us, from computer hard drives and robotic assembly systems to washing machines, coffee makers, and medical devices. Electronics that control mechanical systems account for much of the value of the average automobile, managing everything from stability control and antilock brakes to climate control. There is a lot of scope for Mechatronics Engineering as it incorporates the ideas of electronics and mechanical engineering into one entity. It is an emerging field and presents flexible opportunities with diverse engineering backgrounds.

The innovative assignments for each subject provide many opportunities to students to come up with ideas that relate to the subject. Students can make use of these opportunities to initiate new projects and gradually proceed with them by combining and incorporating the concepts of different subjects into it.
