4 Preface This year's International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction EWHCI '93 was the third conference in a series which started in 1991 in Moscow. Like its predecessors, this conference was occasioned by the long separation of workers in HCI from one another and the new opportunity to learn from one another and start co-operations with each other. EWHCI '93 was indeed international, with papers and attendees from 16 countries around the world. This publication contains a selection of the best papers presented at the conference; each paper has been reviewed and recommended for this publication by at least three international experts.
