3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The goal of this report is to describe the objectives and the making of the first HC2 video. The specific aim of this task was to collect video snippets from researchers participating in the FET event in Budapest in the form of interviews. The video was then posted on line for disseminating Human Computer Confluence to the wide community.

6 1 INTRODUCTION In this document we describe the procedure that we used for the preparation of the HC2 video. The specific aims of the video were two-fold: - to collect feedback on HCC from researchers working in related fields - to disseminate researchers opinion and stimulate further discussion 2 METHOD Video interviews were recorded at the European Future and Emerging Technologies Conference and Exhibition in Budapest, Hungary, 4-6 May 2011 ( This event brought together several researchers working in a broad range of scientific fields, providing a unique opportunity to collect opinions and reflections on Human Computer Confluence. 3 CONTENT Interviewees were selected to provide a variety of backgrounds and seniority; the following criteria were considered: a) field of expertise; b) seniority; c) previous (or current) participation in HCC-related projects or research programs (i.e. FET Presence). All interviewees signed an informed consent and granted their permission to publish the video on the Web. 7 4 INTERVIEW QUESTIONS The following text was used in the interview: HCC, Human-Computer Confluence, is an ambitious research program studying how the emerging symbiotic relation between humans and computing devices can enable radically new forms of sensing, perception, interaction, and understanding. The horizontal character of HCC makes it a fascinating and fertile interdisciplinary field, but it can also compromise its growth, with researchers scattered across disciplines and groups worldwide Questions: Q1: Can we develop fundamentally new senses and ways of interacting with the world? Q2: Can we learn to interact with and understand massive amounts of data? Q3: Can we break the barriers between real and virtual? Q4- What does HCC mean to you? 5 POST-PRODUCTION The interviews were recorded, then the video was produced by UCSC staff. The video will be uploaded on YouTube and embedded in the HC2 project website
