3 Introduction This has been a truly memorable year at SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter. This year a lot of activities were organized by the student chapter like seminars on modern technologies like Data Science and Computational Intelligence, workshops on application of Python, laser game and technical quiz competition, etc. Innovation lab is also running successfully. Students are doing a lot of research oriented projects by leveraging modern technology. This year s hardware model competition saw a lot of interesting projects. Overall it was an enriching experience for all the members of SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter. Fig: SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter

4 IPC Conference Workshop on Data Science and Computational Intelligence

5 Work Shop on Data Science and Computational Intelligence 2018 The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with SPIE Student Chapter, BPPIMT organized a workshop on Data Science and Computational Intelligence from 6th to 8th of April, The workshop was mainly focused on filling the gap between the academia and industry requirements. Due to the hands on nature of this workshop registrations had to be limited to 60 participants including faculties and technical staff. The seminar saw 3 days of Hands-on training. The first 2 days saw Hands-on R- programming and Data Science session conducted by NIVT. The 3rd day was conducted by Intel, our very own former SPIE Student Chapter President, Mr. Debdyut Hazra, who is also an Intel Student Partner conducted a session on Python and Deep Learning. Thus this 3 day workshop gave students a clear idea about industrial requirements and provided knowledge to one and all about R-Programming, Data Sciences, Python and Deep Learning. This workshop gave students an insight into modern technology and its impact in real life applications. Fig: Last group photo after the workshop.

8 Seminar on Microelectronics and VLSI Design

10 Seminar on Microelectronics and VLSI Design On the 8 th of September, 2018 the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in association with SPIE Student Chapter, BPPIMT organized a Seminar on VLSI Design & Microelectronics Technology. This Seminar on VLSI Design & Microelectronics Technology provided an open forum to faculty members, graduate and undergraduate students with an emphasis on Design of VLSI Systems and Microelectronics Technology. 112 members participated faculties and students, in this Seminar. We welcomed students from outside colleges as well making this seminars enlightening boundary even wider.eminent speakers from all over Kolkata came to enlighten young minds and provide valuable knowledge and information on the budding topic of VLSI Design and Microelectronics Technology. It was our pleasure to welcome to the campus- Prof. Susmita Sur Kolay (ISI, Kolkata), Prof. Susanta Sen (Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta), Prof. Chandan Kumar Sarkar (Jadavpur University) and Prof. Tarun Kanti Bhattacharyya (IIT, Kharagpur) to share their knowledge and experiences in this field and make this seminar a huge success. 12 KHET 2018

13 Khet 2018 Khet is a chess-like abstract strategy board game using lasers that was formerly known as Deflection. Players take turns moving Egyptian themed pieces around the playing field, firing their low-powered laser diode after each move. Most of the pieces are mirrored on one or more sides, allowing the players to alter the path of the laser through the playing field. When a piece is struck by a laser on a non-mirrored side, it is eliminated from the game. Like every year, SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter organized a two-day Khet competition, as a part of technical fest in college, on 10 th and 11 th April The chapter has already made the game popular and the interest of students is growing day by day. Many students participated and they showed excellent skills at Khet. The winners were awarded by SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter.

15 Avigyan

16 Avigyan 2018 Avigyan, the annual technical quiz competition held by SPIE BPPIMT Student Chapter, was organized on 11 th March This year more than 60 teams participated in the quiz competition. The quiz was held in two rounds written prelim round followed by final on-stage round. It was a very competitive prelim. 6 teams qualified for the final round. The finals consisted of 4 rounds, including one round dedicated to recent advancements in the field of optics and photonics. All teams showed great quizzing skills in the finals. Technical quizzes are important as they not only provide students a platform to showcase their knowledge but also provides a learning experience.

19 Workshop on of Photovoltaic Cell Solar Project Application

20 Solar Project, This project was an attempt of our last batch where they planned to implant a solar cell on a bit rural side of west Bengal with the aim to provide renewable energy at least to few people for minimal usage. Even this time the project was not completely successful. We tried our best to implement the idea of our seniors exactly the way they planned, but eventually because of some major local governing council issues they did not allow us to implement the cell over there. Even we planned to put it in some other place and we did, but due to heavy rain and natural disasters the pole and the cell could not stand for more time. Yet with this attempt we at least used the cell and pole for some use. However this was not a huge success but we did the best from our side.
