1 RC4WD R2 Disconnect Transmission parts replacement guide Version 1.1 Thank you for your purchase. Welcome to the RC4WD family. This transmission is a combination of many specially engineered and manufactured parts. This is an instruction guide for the R2 Disconnect Transmission. We have tried to detail as many things in this as possible. If for some reason you don t find enough detail here, or you are having other issues with your transmission please visit the RC4WD Transmission forum here. Below are a few things you will need to have. Metric Hex Wrenches Monster Lube X-0317 Blue Thread locker When you reassemble you transmission you may want to use some Blue thread locker on the metal to metal parts. This will help the screws stay in place better. (please be sure to get blue thread locker, it is removable.) You can purchase a rebuild kit for your R2 Disconnect Transmission from RC4WD. The part number is X You can see the parts that come in the replacement kit below. As you disassemble the transmission any parts that will be reused will need to be cleaned. This will include the transmission case.

2 Section 1. You will remove the dig unit and rebuild it first. In section 2 you will rebuild the main transmission unit. Step 1. Remove the screws on the dig unit highlighted in the photo below. Once the screws are removed, disassemble the dig unit. Carefully remove the bushing in the dig plate and remove the thin plate.

3 Step 2. Reinstall the new thin plate to the dig plate. Carefully insert the bushing you removed to get the thin plate off. Now you can insert the new dig shaft and shaft collar. See the second photo. Step 3. You can now insert the dig spacers. Make sure that the turned down portion goes into the dig plate. You can now sit this to the side and work on the main unit. Section 2. You will now replace the parts on the main transmission unit. Step 1. Remove the screws shown in the photo below. Slowly remove the cover then the gears, bushings and shafts from inside the case.

4 Step 2. In step 1 you should have removed the main output shaft bearing and bushing. If not, do so now. You can then install the new bushings. Both covers have them. Once this is done, you can install the new bearings. Step 3. You can now install the two new gear pins. Also slide a new bushing onto the top pin.

5 Step 4. Install a new gear onto the bottom pin. Then slide a bushing onto the pin that just received the new gear. Step 5. Gently slide the other new gear onto the top pin. This doesn t need to be set into place completely. In the next step will be the full assembly of the second gear. Step 6. You can now install the main output gear. Make sure the side with the collar goes in first. You can see in the first photo how the main gear and the second gear need to go together. This can be a little tricky. Just be careful and go slow. Make sure once your done that it looks like the second photo. You can see that there is a spacer on the main output shaft. If your R2 came with this spacer, please reuse it here Make sure to lube the gears with the RC4WD Monster lube before you move on to the next step.

6 Step 7. Slowly reinstall the transmissions cover plate. Make sure and align the pins and main shaft. Install the cover screws and tighten carefully. Once you are done with this step, spin the output shaft to make sure the transmission spins freely. If not, remove the screws and check for assembly issues. Section 3. Installation of the disconnect unit to the main transmission. Step 1. Get the disconnect unit that you rebuilt earlier. Carefully slide it overtop of the main transmission unit. Make sure to align the screw holes and the disconnect collar to there correct locations.

7 Step 2. Install the new screws into the disconnect unit. Be very careful when tightening these screws. The threads can strip very easily if you are not careful. Your transmission should now be all back together, and look like the photo below. We hope this guide helped you with your Transmission.
