3 PLANNING YOUR TREE, WREATH OR CENTERPIECE Decorators are encouraged to use a theme, whether traditional or non-traditional. Be creative and have fun; however, all themes should be appropriate to display in any home or business. Please don t theme your tree, wreath or centerpiece to promote your cause or business. A theme can be established by repeating elements such as color, subject, shape or size of ornaments. Be sure you have enough decorations to completely fill all sides of the tree. A variety of materials can be used to fill empty spaces and add shape to a tree or wreath, including ribbon and bows, tulle or netting, silk flowers, etc. To give trees a finished look, coordinate the tree topper, skirt and trim. The amount you spend on your decorations is up to your own discretion, but ALL decorations and ornaments MUST be high quality. Please keep in mind that Festival of Trees pre-purchase opportunities range from $400 to $3,000 to receive a decorated item from the Festival. Please contact the tree committee chair with suggestions or questions. Visit the PMS Festival of Trees Facebook page (Facebook.com/PMSFestivaloftrees) for photos of last year s trees, wreaths and centerpieces, which might help generate ideas. JUDGING AND AWARDS All trees, wreaths and centerpieces will be judged by a panel appointed by the Festival of Trees committee prior to the public opening of the Festival of Trees. After the judging is complete, ribbons are placed on the signage next to the award winners. After the Festival, the ribbons will be mailed to the winning decorators. Please leave the ribbons in place during the Festival. Best of Show Voted on by a panel of judges. First, second and third place winners are selected from each design category. People s Choice Voted on by the Festival of Trees attendees during the event. One winner from each category is announced on the final day of the Festival. BENEFITS All designers are listed in the Festival of Trees program, on the Festival of Trees website and in the Farmington Daily Times. SET-UP DAY Monday, November 28, 10 am 6 pm During Super Set-up Day, Festival decorators can complete the assembly of their trees, wreaths and/or centerpieces at the Farmington Civic Center. All decorating must be completed and all pre-decorated trees, wreaths and centerpieces must be in place by 6 pm on Monday, November 28.

4 CHECK-IN/OUT PROCEDURES 1. If you have not fully decorated your tree in advance: When you arrive at the Farmington Civic Center, you will be assisted in finding the assigned place for your item. Allow enough time to finish decorating by 6 pm. If you have decorated your item in advance: A committee member will direct you to the location where your item may be placed. IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks to the Farmington Civic Center during Set-Up Recruit enough help to finish on time Children should not be left unattended Tables and chairs are available for use at the Farmington Civic Center Ladders will not be available from the Farmington Civic Center Please respect your neighbor s space. Keep your tools and supplies contained to your own area. Designers are responsible for bringing the necessary tools, equipment and materials needed during set-up Suggestions include: Wire, string, fishing line or ties Needle nose and regular pliers, wire cutters and scissors Glue gun and glue sticks Extension cord for your tools Tape floral, masking, duct, etc. Step ladder or stool to reach the top of your tree Small folding table

5 DECORATOR GUIDELINES 1. Trees must be artificial and at least 4ft tall (preferably 7 ft tall). 2. Live or perishable material (plants, flowers, food) cannot be used for decoration. 3. ALL decorations, ornaments and trim MUST be attached securely with wire or glue to facilitate safe delivery to the winner. Metal caps and hangers on ball ornaments MUST be glued on. Please do not use fragile ornaments or any decorations that can be easily broken in transit. 4. Identification signage is provided by Festival of Trees. 5. All donated materials become the property of Festival of Trees. 6. If you are unable to decorate your item, please notify the Festival of Trees committee as soon as possible so that other arrangements may be made. 7. The entire surface of the tree must be decorated, including the back. 8. You must use a tree stand. A tree skirt or other appropriate base covering must be included in the design. Please do not glue or staple tree skirts to the platforms. 9. All gifts submitted with your tree should be unwrapped. 10. All decorations under the tree will be given to the winner of the tree. 11. All wreaths must have a hanging wire attached and a door hanger should be included. 12. An extension cord must be provided if your item requires electricity.
