Premier November 2011 Take me to the Premier members area
Welcome to the November 2011 Digital Scrapper Premier! Are you experiencing the change of seasons where you live? For most of us, it s getting colder and the days are shorter. (For some of you down under, it s the opposite sigh.) There are seasons in everything we do, including scrapbooking. Some seasons are fruitful and full of activity and productivity. You get lots of pages done, or even finish an album. For those of us finishing up the Get Organized NOW! class, it means we aren t getting many pages done, but we re getting our digital files in hand so we can scrap faster and more efficiently later on. Then there are seasons where you may do well just to download the month s Premier goodies. Life happens and other people and events demand our attention, and that is a natural part of the rhythm of life. When that happens, you can be like a squirrel gathering food for winter. After checking your kit to make sure the download went through and you have everything you re supposed to have, store the kit and templates and tutorials in a safe place on your computer, knowing you can always come back to it later, when you re ready. (And, like a wise squirrel, be sure to store a backup copy somewhere just in case!) This Month s Tutorials Jan Walker has done it again with a tutorial that is probably going to be addicting for you. Watch how she takes a photograph and turns it into an amazing work of art! Veronica Spriggs has a cool layer style and overlay you can use to create a grungy torn and curled peeking through the page effect. Susie Roberts continues the torn paper theme with her take on how to create realistic torn paper. Then she takes it step further and shows you how to apply the torn effect to a frame. Fun! And finally, Jen shares a holey page design technique that is sure to bring a smile to your face! I hope you enjoy this month s tutorials, kit, and templates! Love and scrapbooking success, I hope this will be a productive month for you!
Top Picks Me Personally - October 2011 What delightful pages you all made last month! This page by fulltimer especially caught my eye. First of all, the photos are fabulous and fit wonderfully with the Center Stage tutorial by Susie Roberts. I also loved the creamy color theme and combination of papers fulltimer used. And finally, I thought the journaling was very well done and fun for even a total stranger, like me, to read. Nice job on your page fulltimer! And thank you to everyone else who created a page featured here or in our gallery. You are inspiring! Top Pick Layout by fulltimer I absolutely loved Susie s layout, but wanted to use a photo that was vertical rather than horizontal. digi_scrap janine Kimmer Journaling reads: It comes as no surprise that Jentri would share in the love of horses with her Mommy. It equally should come as no surprise when she started asking for her own horse. Living in the city might present a bit of a problem for boarding, but such big grown-up thoughts are not concerns of a little cowgirl. Congratulations to the other top picks, pictured here in alphabetical order. Click on each of the thumbnails to see the gallery pages for these great layouts and images. lkdavis Nann riet
It s a Man s World by Manuela Zimmermann This kit contains: Isn t it about time to scrap the men and boys in your life? You ll be inspired to create some amazing layouts when you see our It s a Man s World kit by talented digi-designer Manuela Zimmermann of Studio Manu. This kit is overflowing with wonderfully realistic elements and richly textured papers that will make those masculine layouts really stand out! 14 Papers (1 add. paper in a modified version) 1 Baseball Cap 1 Bicycle (Stamp) 1 Binocular 1 Car and 1 Compass 1 Fishing Boat 1 Football 1 Fastener 4 Frames (old metal, negative, paper, wood) 2 Gears 1 Hat and 1 Helmet 1 Ice Hockey Stick (with and without labeling) 1 Ivy 1 Knife 1 Flashlight (with and without light flair) 1 Messy Stitch 2 Overlays 1 Pair Of Soccer Shoes 1 Piece Of Old Metal 2 Pieces Of Chicken Wire 1 Pocket Watch (Stamp) 1 Puck 2 Screws 1 Skateboard 1 Soccer Ball 1 Star Overlay 1 Tag and 2 pieces of tape
Getting to know our designer... Manuela Zimmermann My name is Manuela Zimmermann. I am also known by my designer names: Studio Manu or manudesigns. I live in Germany with my lovely husband Birger, and we have three children - Juliane (15), Paul (12), and Nick (6). I discovered digital scrapbooking in 2005 after our third child was born. I was looking for a way to capture all those precious baby memories and photos. I arranged the photos of him and his siblings on a layout on the computer and then I embellished them. I didn t even realize that I was digital scrapbooking. From the very beginning, I created everything I needed for a layout by myself, because I didn t know that you could purchase digital kits! One day I was asked what kit I had used on a special page and where I had purchased it. I was really surprised by the question and that was how I got started giving away freebies. In addition to digital scrapbooking, I LOVE reading. If I have a thrilling book in my hands, I can read all night long! Click here to find more beautiful kits by Manuela, available at Scrapbook Graphics. Read about Manuela here on her blog.

Extra Tidbit Wired Frame by Susie Roberts Use the chicken wire from this month s It s a Man s World kit to create a unique wire frame. Step 1 Open chickenwire1.png from the It s a Man s World kit and drag it onto your scrapbook page. Step 2 - On the chicken wire layer, get the Rectangular Marquee tool and in the Options Bar choose New Selection. Click and drag out a selection of the area of chicken wire you want to use as a frame. Step 3 In the Menu Bar choose Select > Inverse and press the Backspace key (Mac: Delete key) to remove all the wire outside your original selection. Step 4 Press Ctrl D to Deselect. Step 5 Get the Eraser tool, and using a hard round brush, erase all the parts of the wire from inside the diamond shape and around the edges. Step 6 Get the Magic Wand tool and in the Options Bar choose New Selection, Tolerance 32, check Contiguous but don t check Sample All Layers. Click inside the center of the chicken wire frame to create a selection. Step 7 In the Menu Bar choose Select > Modify > Expand. Choose 10 pixels and click OK. Step 8 - Press the Ctrl key (Mac: Cmd key) and click on the New Layer icon in the Layers panel to create a new layer below the wire layer. Step 9 Choose a color you want for your clipping mask and press Alt Backspace (Mac: Opt Delete) to fill that layer with the Foreground color. Step 10 Press Ctrl D (Mac: Cmd D) to Deselect. Step 11 Drag a photo onto your page above the clipping mask, position your cursor between the two layers and press the Alt key (Mac: Opt key) and click to group them together. Step 12 Transform your photo down to size using the Transform tool. Step 13 Add a drop shadow to the wire frame and a fastener at the top. (Note: You could leave your chicken wire in one piece and create multiple frames within the diamond shapes by just erasing the inside areas)
