4 Topaz features a great interface and easy to use tools. These simple, yet powerful tools make it easy to mask out unwanted backgrounds while retaining intricate image details and image quality. 1. Zoom - Allow you to zoom in and out of specific areas of your image to allow for more precise selections General - The general tools include: undo, redo, selection and the hand tool. These tools help make your workflow more efficient Brushes - Allow you to select the elements in the image that you want to keep, remove and computer. Brush sizes range from Topaz Magic Brush - Transforms red & blue brushes into refinement tools. Allowing you to remove or recover image elements Fills - Allow you to fill all of your image or just a portion of your image with the selected color. 6. Reset - Allow you to reset your entire image to the selected color. Using this feature will erase any previous selections made Compute - Analyzes the tri-map selections and creates mask. 8. 5 There are three steps to creating your mask. 1. Creating the tri-map Paint the KEEP (green), CUT (red), and PROCESS (blue) areas with a combination of fill tools and brush tools. 2. Process tri-map Hit the process button. If you are using a large image then make you preferred quality selection then process. The mask immediately updates right there in the ser interface. 3. 6 Tri-map The key to creating great masks with Topaz lies in your selections. The color selections (tri-map) and the refinement selections that you make provides with a starting and an ending point. is then able to fill in all of the in between details on its own. Your tri-map is vital in creating your image mask. 7 As you might have guessed, the purpose of the tri-map is to sample colors. This means that wherever you paint green, Topaz will look at that section and determine that those colors are meant to be kept. Wherever you paint red, looks at it and determines that those colors are meant to be removed. Wherever you paint blue, will take the color samples gathered in the red and green areas to figure out what the blue areas should be. You can use the brush size of your choice and your blue outline does not have to be perfect. However, the more colors you sample with red and green and more precise your blue selection is the less refining you will have to do after processing. 1. Red (Cut) Area 1 2 Blue (Compute) Area 2 3. 8 Processing Processing your image using the Compute section will allow to analyze your tri-map selections and create your initial Mask. The Compute Mode gives you the option of selecting speed or quality when it comes to processing larger images only. Adjusting the quality settings will have no affect whatsoever on small images. The technology behind the quality settings allows ReMask2 to process larger images by shrinking the image, computing the tri-map selections and then enlarging back to size. Additionally, the high-quality setting will refine the edges after resizing. Using the Draft quality (fast) option will process your larger images faster, however you could see blurring or distortion of fine edges. Using the High Quality (slow) option will process your larger images slower, however your final processed image will have better overall quality. For more tutorials and resources please visit:

9 Refinement Refinement is much easier because you can see exactly what you re doing right there on the screen and it is perfect for final touch ups. There are three tools used for refinement: 1. The Topaz Magic Brush refines specific areas of your mask by eliminating undesired elements (red) or recovering over processed elements (green) Mask Hardness Slider - Adjust the slider to determine how hard your mask is applied to your image edges. 3. Background Color Selector - Change the default gray background to any color. This allows you to better identify areas for refinement. 10 Once the masking process (tri-map, process, refinement) is complete the new mask can be saved back to Photoshop by clicking OK. From there you can add in a new background or add in any other creative effects to your newly masked image. For more tutorials and resources please visit:
