3 1. Trees are Jewels (2 hr) $16 Trees are jewels in more ways than one. A different twist to the traditional Dorset button. This time using wire and beads to create a beautiful piece that could be used as a decoration, brooch, pendant... The process learnt could be applied to a range of different Dorset Button designs. What to bring: Scissors. 3. Exotic Pumpkin (4 hr) $26 A pincushion for Cinderella, not a coach. Have fun turning a basic pumpkin shaped pincushion into an exotic and functional art piece by embellishing it with insects and other features. All material supplied. What to bring: Scissors, lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe). 4. Boro (4 hr) $25 2. Canvas work - Broken Rules (4 hr) $28 Imagine being able to create a piece of textile art as creative as this! See what can be done with canvas, paint, sheer fabrics threads and more. Enjoy breaking the rules of traditional canvas work by working with a range of different threads in a very free contemporary way on a small piece of canvas. All material supplied. What to bring: Scissors, lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe). Traditionally, poor families in Japan patched and re-mended textiles many times over, resulting in beautiful, warm, many-layered clothing and bedding. These textiles were mostly indigo-dyed cotton and heavy stitching held the pieces together. We will update the tradition, and construct a piece that can be used for a cushion, bag, glasses case or other small project. We will be using re-purposed fabric, including some small pieces of re-cycled kimono and obi. Whilst we a t get hold of i digo, e ill ha e a go at dyeing a couple of small amounts of fabric to take home and further your work. Only enrol in this class if you like blue! All materials supplied but if you have special blue fabric you would like to include, then bring it too. What to bring: Apron, lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe).

Garlic basket (4 hr) $28 These fabulous little baskets are made from a mixture of natural fibres (red hot poker leaves, iris leaves, cumbungi, ivy and cordyline) highlighted with fabric, cord and beads. Learn how to weave over a plastic mould to create your own delightful little basket. So many uses. What to bring: lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe). 8. Felt garden (4 hr) $28 This workshop will give you a chance to use commercial felt and threads to explore unusual colour and stitch combinations you e e er used efore. You ll be surprised at what works with what. Experiment and create a beautiful piece with a floral theme. What to bring: Scissors, lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe). 6. Origami Gift Box (2 hr) $18 You will learn how to fold plain and patterned paper to make a rather lovely gift box suitable for sweets, jewellery, toiletries etc. A great way to enhance a simple gift for that special person. 7. Printing and Stitching (2 hr) $15 This fun little class will use all sorts of bits and pieces from around home - including your vegetable scraps! to create one-off pieces of fabric which you will then embellish with creative stitching. The resulting pieces can be used in any textile or paper piece. The possibilities are endless. Come along and release your inner child! Just bring an apron, a willingness to both explore and let go of perfection. What to bring: apron. 9. Natural Dyeing (4hr) $30 Come and experience the heady alchemy of dyeing with Australia Flora. We ll e usi g a ethod hi h ill oth dye the background cloth and create contact leaf prints. Whilst the dye pot is orki g its agi, e ll reate front and back covers so you can preserve your work as a 10cm x 10cm concertina book. If time and weather permit, you can also forage from my garden. What to bring: wear old clothes, apron, closed in shoes, hat, icecream container with lid (or similar), old towel. BYO lunch (no shops in Kialla Central)

5 10. Pebblecrete (2 hr) $16 Add interest and texture to your work by raising the surface with small pebbles. Beginners and experienced stitchers alike will find something to please them in these simple but effective techniques which can be applied to a range of textile projects. The colour palette is subtle and beautiful. 12. Felted Journal Cover (4 hr) $27 Learn basic felting techniques and take home a gorgeous A5 book cover. You will make your own prefelts with merino wooltops and silk embellishments in the morning and then design your own cover or copy the one provided and felt it in the afternoon. You can then hand or machine embroider it later to add interest. What to bring: Water spray bottle, small bucket or bowl (e.g. 2 litre ice-cream container), old tea towel or piece of sheet same size, 2 old towels, apron, A5 journal/visual diary for reference, silk fabric scraps and/or embellishment yarns, lunch (or buy from Eastbank Cafe). 11. Penny Rug Needle Case (2 hr) $15 You will make this attractive and functional needle case using Harris Tweed fabric, stitching and interesting material embellishments. Take home something you can use or give as a gift to that special person. What to bring: Scissors, a needle with a large eye. 13. Shibori Dragon Fly (2hr) $18 This really attractive ribbon and beaded dragonfly is sewn onto a piece of material. It can be used as decoration on crazy patchwork, textile work, or maybe a cover for a notebook. What to bring: Scissors and if you have them... a beading needle (or needle thin enough to thread beads on) and a beading mat (or something to put beads on).

6 14. Printing on Cloth (4hr) $30 This workshop is an introduction to the printing process. We will start by making our own simple linocut (there will be a selection of readymade linocuts available as well). After inking the roller we will hand or machine press our designs to the fabric. Sakiori Weaving (4hr) $28 The traditional Japanese technique of rag weaving using torn Japanese and other fabrics to create a seascape, this method can be used to produce any design to be used as a piece of art work, mats, handbags or book covers.
