by Drew Fletcher and Rob Carothers Adapted by Tommy Woodard and Eddie James What Two friends agree to tell each other absolutely everything, no matter how embarrassing. That is, except for the most important thing (Themes: Evangelism, Friends, Growing up, Honesty) Who David(y) Steve(y) When Wear (Props) Various moments over thirteen years To make each year stand out, use baseball caps for the little kids, glasses for Jr. High students and graduation robes for High School scene. For the dance scene, use Titanic soundtrack or other popular love song. Why 1 Peter 4:11, Rev. 2:3-6, Ephesians 1:19 How Time The story is told in three vignettes. The characters age through the story and this should be denoted through voices, mannerisms, and costuming. For more ideas see the video at. Approximately minutes Skit Guys, Inc. 2 The skit starts with David, age 28, talking to the audience. (To audience) I remember the first time I met Steve, we couldn t have been more than five years old. I had no idea we would grow up together. I had just moved into the neighborhood and we became best friends. We shared everything, always under the same philosophy: Friends Tell Friends Everything. We had no secrets. Steve, age 5, enters rubbing his rear. Need quick pace to this dialogue. (Age 5) Hi, whachya doin? Nothin. How come yer rubbin yer bum? Cuz. Cuz why? Got in trouble. You got in trouble? Yeah, got a spankin and got grounded. Got a spankin and got grounded? Why? What were ya doin? Sperimentin. Sperimentin? What were ya sperimentin with? Parakeet. Parakeet? (Laughs) Whadya do with the parakeet? Put him on my Big Wheel. You put him on yer Big Wheel? 2
(Laughs) What ya use to get him on the Big Wheel? Duct tape. Duct tape? (Laughs) You used duct tape to put yer parakeet on yer Big Wheel? Wanted to see what kind of noise it would make. What kind of noise did it make? Kind of a tweet, clunk, tweet, clunk, tweet, crack. Cool. How is the parakeet now? He was doing okay till we tried to take the duct tape off. So you got a spankin and grounded? If you got grounded, how come yer out here with me? Cuz. Come on, friends tell friends everything. We re friends? Yeah, I guess Don t make a big deal out of it. Kay. So how come yer out here with me if you got grounded? 3
Yer my punishment. I m yer punishment? Yeah, my dad said I had to go play with the new kid. Oh. (Beat) So. So whadya wanna do? I dunno, whada you wanna do? I dunno, whada you wanna do? I dunno, whada you wanna do? Got a parakeet? No. Loser. (Eager to please) Got a cat. Cool. Got any duct tape? No. Loser. Got a staple gun! Cool. Here kitty, kitty. Steve exits. (Age 28, to audience) That s how it started. We were inseparable. We did everything together, went everywhere together, and told each other everything, because friends tell friends everything. We were together even through the awkward years. Steve, age 12, enters. Steve and David are now in sixth grade. Give them glasses, retainers or high voices. Something that shows they are awkward and hitting puberty. Hey Davey. (Voice cracks constantly) I told you, my name is David. 4
What s wrong with yer voice? My mom says I m becoming a man. Cool. So, you coming to the Jedi Club meeting tonight? Can t. Whadya mean can t? You gotta come to the Jedi Club meeting! Nope, can t. Can t tell me, how come? Just can t. Come on, friends tell friends everything. All right. I can t go to the Jedi Club meeting cuz I m going to the Spring Fling dance. Yer going to the dance? Yep. Who ya going to the dance with? Jenny. Yer going to the dance with a girl? Yep. But what about the Jedi Club? You can t miss this meeting. How come, what s so special about this meeting? Can t tell me? Nope. Come on, friends tell friends everything. Oh, yer getting a promotion. 5
A promotion? Yep, from Obi Wan Kenobi, to Obi Two Kenobi! Wow, I gotta be there for that. What about the dance with Jenny? I won t go. What? Are you crazy? Jenny is like the most popular girl in school. You gotta go to the dance with her! Do it for all us geeks who will be at the Jedi Club tonight! Nope, don t want to. Don t want to? Just can t. Come on, friends tell friends everything. Why don t you want to go to the dance? I can t dance. You can t dance? Nope, I can t bust a move, raise the roof, or get jiggy with it. I don t even know who let the dogs out! (Realizes this calls for drastic measures) Oh brother, all right, close the door. What? Close the door. Why? Just do it, I m gonna help you. Don t tell anyone about this! Shut the door. You re scaring me. Just let me turn on my CD player. 6
