4. FUNCTIONS USE AND DESCRIPTION RS-232 CONNECTOR This cmmunicatin cnnectr Serial Prt RS-232 is a CANON cnnectr f 9 pins, situated in the upper left part f the unit. The pin ut is as fllws: NC GND RX TX RTS CTS Nt cnnected Earth grund Input DATA Transmissin DATA Output - Send Input - Ready t receive The unit is supplied with a cnnecting cable ready t cnnect directly t this utput, t any type f cmputer r printer. 37 Thrughut this sectin f the manual a detailed descriptin f the use and prcedures fr the PTE-100-V will be given. This unit has been designed t be used as an instrument t test vltage, frequency and synchrnizing relays, and, cmbined with any current injectin set, can be used t shift the phase angles, and as anther current surce fr differential relays testing. All the functins that are incrprated in this unit were designed t easily test the relays previusly mentined. This is achieved as all functins are lcated n the frnt panel in a MANUAL mde, which befre required test units that were prgrammable by a external cmputer. Furthermre, the PTE-100-V, and thanks t the BUS-PTE, can be easily intercnnected t ther 100 V and even t anther units in the PTE Range, making the specific functins fr relay testing, much mre simple and effective FREQUENCY SECTION This sectin describes the functins f the internal frequency generatr incrprated in the PTE-100-V. It is bvius that this is cmbined with the pwer utput t be effective. Furthermre, when used in F (slip frequency) mde, the external reference input must be used INITIAL STATUS When the unit is turned n the frequency generatr has the fllwing values and readings: 1. Initial Frequency : This is r Hz. It depends n the frequency rdered when the unit was purchased Functin Mde: Enters in the nrmal frequency mde (F). 3. Reference f the unit: It will synchrnize the vltage utput t the internal frequency generatr (freq). In summary, if a vltage r current value is selected, this will be in the utput with the frequency at 50 r 60 Hz, as the frequency display indicates. If yu turn the rtating knb, this frequency value will change, and the utput frequency is instantaneusly actualized t the actual display value.

FUNCTION MODE SELECTION DYNAMIC TESTS - SELECTING FREQUENCY RAMPS The Internal Frequency Generatr (I.F.G.) has 2 functin mdes: Nrmal frequency and the Differential frequency. T select ne r the ther use the press key MODE which will indicate the state by the LED indicatrs lcated belw F r F. The fllwing explains these frequency mdes. 1. NORMAL FREQUENCY MODE (F). In this mde the I.F.G. acts as an abslute frequency generatr, that is, the values indicated in the display are the actual frequency utput in Hz. The active range is 40 t 210Hz.It is capable t be prgrammed with different parameters in a way that it can autmatically perfrm different frequency ramps, r steps. 2. SLIP FREQUENCY MODE ( F).In this mde the I.F.G. acts as an differential frequency generatr. The utput frequency will be the ne that is applied t the External Reference input plus/minus the difference selected in the frequency display. This is, "SLIP" the utput frequency against the reference frequency. This mde cannt be used withut an external reference. It allws t select differences between ±0.001Hz up t ±10.00Hz. The prcess t select a frequency ramp is as fllws: 1. Select Nrmal Frequency Mde (F), if nt in this mde befre. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 1, (starting value), must be already light up. Select in the display the frequency value desired as the ramp Initial value. Selectin can be made between 40 and 210Hz. 2. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 2, (slpe 1), will light up and the display will change t the units Hz/s. Selectin is made by the rtating knb and the slpe f the 1st ramp can be set in Hz per secnd. This selectin is frm 0.01Hz up t 10Hz/s. If 0 is selected the slpe will be infinite, which means there is n ramp and the change is instantaneus t the secnd value, when rdered. 3. Press the key SET,the LED indicatr 3, (time duratin f the Final value f the 1st ramp), will light up and the display will change t the units secnds (S). Selectin is made by the rtating knb and it is the time, in secnds, in which remains the final value f the 1st ramp and it is the time befre the secnd ramp begins.(ramp 2). This selectin is frm 0.001s up t 10s. If 0 is selected, the Final value remains until a manual rder is given

4. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 4, (final value f the first ramp), will light up and the display will change t the units Hz. Selectin is made by the rtating knb and is in Hz, and the value selected is the final value f the 1st ramp. This selectin is frm 40Hz up t 210Hz. 5. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 5, (2nd slpe), will light up and the display will change the units t Hz/s. Selectin is made by the rtating knb and it defines the slpe f the 2nd ramp. This selectin is frm 0.01Hz/s up t 10Hz/s. If 0 is selected indicates that there is n slpe and the change prduced is instantaneus, when rdered. 6. In case f the ramp 2, the initial value is the same as the final f the first ramp, and the final value will be the initial value f the 1st ramp. 7. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 6, (value t start the timer), will light up and the display will change its units t Hz. Selectin is made by the rtating knb, and the value is in Hz, when the ramp passes fr this value will send a signal pulse t START TIMER. The values selected can be frm 40 t 210Hz. 8. Press the key SET, the LED indicatr 1 (initial value t start the ramp) will light up and the display will shw the frequency value previusly selected. The ramp is nw defined and ready t start. If the peratr wishes t change any parameters r simply revise the settings made, the cycle may be repeated always stpping at the LED indicatr 1. If any ther f the LEDs are lit r it is in any ther psitin, the ramp will nt start. IMPORTANT: When the unit is generating a frequency and the peratr wishes t select a ramp, this frequency will nt change during the selectin prcess, althugh it is nt indicated in the display START THE SELECTED RAMP. DYNAMIC CHANGE T start the selected ramp, the key shuld be pressed nce and the ramp will fllw the prcedure previusly prgrammed. The LED indicatrs will begin t flash slwly indicating where the ramp is at each stage. Cncerning the LED indicatr 6(start value f the timer), when the frequency value reaches the selected value, this LED will light up fr nly 1 secnd, indicating that the signal has been sent t start the timer DYNAMIC CHANGE, STEP TO A 2ND VALUE When nly a step t a secnd value is desired withut a ramp, a secnd value step can be achieved by pressing key fr 2 secnds. Repeating this prcess the step can be made t the first value TTL AUXILIARY OUTPUT. APPLICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS The auxiliary utput "Freq. Out" generates a square wave utput signal TTL (5V) which crrespnds t the frequency and phase value, f the vltage utput. (whether it is synchrnized t Line,Freq,Ext,Bus) This utput allws t use the PTE-100-V as a highly accurate frequency reference fr ther units (such as ur COMPATEST 1000) and t synchrnize the PTE-100-V utputs t any ther instrument like an Oscillscpe, fr example POWER OUTPUT SECTION This sectin describes the crrect use f the PTE-100-V pwer utputs. The utput can be in vltage mde up t 300V r in current mde up t 8A. As well, described in this sectin are the fur pssible references available, and hw t select them INITIAL STATUS When the unit is turned ON the fllwing values and selectins appears: 1. Vltage Value: 000.0V 2. Range selected: 300V 3. Output Status: OFF 4. Reference: Freq

5. Output Mde: Vltage SELECTING THE OUTPUT (V/I) As mentined befre the PTE-100-V can be used as a vltage r current surce. When the unit is turned n the unit will be in the vltage mde. The current utput is achieved in the fllwing manner: - Press the key TAP V/I fr abut, 5 secnds. The display will change the units t A (Amps) and the utput range will autmatically change t 0.33A (150V). The values selected frm here n will be in Amps. - T return t the vltage mde press the same key again fr 2 secnds. This mde cannt be changed when the utput is ON SELECTION OF THE OUTPUT RANGE The fllwing utput ranges can be btained: Vltage Mde: 300/150/6.25V Current Mde: 0.33A/8A T select any f these ranges press the key TAP V/I. The display will autmatically change. In the case where the selected value is greater than the range selected, the value will ges t the maximum available in the selected range. The active range is that which has its crrespnding LED lit SELECTION OF THE REFERENCE SOURCE When the unit is turned n, it will synchrnize with its wn internal signal prduced by the I.F.G., which is indicated by the LED (Freq). Changing this reference is explain as fllws: 1. Press the key SYNC. The unit will pass t the reference BUS-PTE, which is indicated by the crrespnding LED marked BUS. This implies that the reference is the BUS-PTE, with any ther unit f the PTE Range. If the units are nt intercnnected (BUS-PTE is nt cnnected) the LED indicatr will flash slwly indicating that there is n reference. If there is n reference in the BUS and the utput is turned n, the unit will synchrnize autmatically t the last valid reference. 2. Press the key SYNC. The unit will pass t the LINE reference, which is indicated by the crrespnding LED marked LINE. This implies that the reference is the main vltage supply. 3. Press the key SYNC.The unit will pass t the External reference, which is indicated by the crrespnding LED marked EXT. This implies that the reference is nw the signal cnnected t the External Phase Reference Input, intrduced in the taps "Ext. Phase Reference". If there is n signal in these taps the LED EXT, will flash slwly indicating that there is n reference r that it is nt suitable. 4. If there is n reference and the utput is turned ON, it will synchrnize t the LINE reference, which is the reference prir t this reference in the cycle. If fr sme reasn there is an external reference and this reference disappears, the unit will synchrnize t the last valid reference that was. 5. Press the key SYNC. The unit will pass t the internal frequency reference, which is indicated by its crrespnding LED and marked Freq.. This is the start f the cycle. Reference changes cannt be made when the utput is ON

SELECTION AND REGULATION OF THE OUTPUT VALUES This is achieved by turning the rtating knb and the digit selectr key The actual value selected is shwn n the display, whether the utput is ON r OFF. The selected value shwn in the display remains the same when the utput is ON. If the value selected is higher than allwed in the range chsen, the rtating knbs cntinue t turn, but the value cannt be increased. The unit des nt feedback values less than 3% f the end f the range selected. In this case the phase and the magnitude values cannt be guaranteed. The fllwing table clarifies this: Range selected 3% f range nt feedback feedback When the verlad alarm is lit, it is due t an verlad f the maximum pwer values allwed in the utput. In sme cases it may be due t fast transitries that the unit can nt feedback prperly, such as a sudden step frm a very lw utput value t anther ne very high. T start again, simply press the utput key ON, t activate the utput. If the cause f this verlad has been rectified the unit will functin as nrmal, if the verlad has nt been rectified the unit will turn ff again. When the thermal alarm is lit, it is because the inside temperature has reached the allwable limit. When this ccurs turn ff the unit. When this alarm LED is lit, the unit cannt be used, and there will be n utput. When the unit has cled dwn t a lwer temperature the LED will g ff and the unit can be used DYNAMIC TESTS: STEP TO A 2ND VALUE The PTE-100-V allws the peratr t make dynamic tests, by allwing jumps (Steps) frm ne value t anther, whether it be frm higher t lwer r vice versa. This is very useful, fr example, when making tests f minimum vltage relay test. This is achieved as fllws: 300V 0-9V 9-300V 150V 0-4.5V V 6.25V V V 0.33A A A 8A A A OUTPUT CONTROL /ON/OFF AND ALARMS The pwer utput status is cntrlled by the press key ON/OFF, and is active when the crrespnding LED is lit. T turn ff this utput simply press the key again. This utput is prtected by 2 types f electrnic prtectin, which are indicated by the crrespnding LEDs marked, OVERLOAD (OVL) and/r THERMAL (TH). When either f these are active (lit), the pwer utput is immediately cut ff and the LED ON/OFF will turn ff. Press the key. In the display will appear the reading "0000" r the 2nd value previusly recrded. Select by mean f the rtating knbs the desired value t acts as 2nd value. Press again the key.the display will shw the actual value that is the 1st value. Press the key. This will prduce instantaneusly the step frm the actual value t the 2nd. value selected. At the same time there is a signal sent t the "START CHRONO" utput, t start an external timer if desired. Furthermre, the LED situated abve this press key indicates that the 2nd value is in the utput

When the unit is in this situatin the displayed values cannt be changed even if the rtating knbs are turned. When the key is pressed again, the step will be the ppsite, that is frm the 2nd value t the 1st. At the same time, there is a signal sent t "START CHRONO" utput. The LED will g ff indicating it is at the first value. NOTE: By pressing the key fr the 2nd value selectin and having the utput ON. The effect in this case even thugh the display marks a different value the utput remains the first value PHASE ANGLE SELECTION In this sectin describes in detail the use f the Phase Shifter incrprated in the PTE-100-V as well as the External Phase and frequency reference. The display in this sectin is indicated in hexadecimal degrees ( ) between the utput and the reference chse (Freq. Ext, Line, Bus) in a ANTI-CLOCKWISE sense as fllws: INITIAL STATUS When the unit is turned n, the phase angle display shwn the fllwing value: 1. Value: 000. As explained befre, it means that the Pwer Output is exactly at Zer degrees, s, in phase, with the selected Reference. Fr example, if yur reference is LINE, the utput cincides, in phase angle, with the phase f the main supply that is already supplying the unit DYNAMIC TESTS: STEP TO A 2ND VALUE The PTE-100-V allws the peratr t make dynamic tests, by allwing jumps (Steps) frm ne value t anther, whether it be frm higher t lwer r vice versa. This is very useful, fr example, when making tests f ut-f-step generatr prtective relay test. This is achieved as fllws: Press the key.in the display will appear the reading "0000" r the 2nd value previusly recrded. Furthermre, the LED situated abve this press key indicates that the 2nd value is in the utput. NOTE: When the unit is in this situatin the displayed values cannt be changed even if the rtating knbs are turned

When the key is pressed again, the step will be the ppsite, that is frm the 2nd value t the 1st. At the same time, there is a signal sent t "START CHRONO" utput. The LED will g ff indicating it is at the first value GENERAL CONTROL SECTION The General Cntrl Sectin is intended t acts as an interface between the unit and all the external equipment, relay under test, etc. that may be used in the nrmal testing. There are tw main functins: NOTE: By pressing the key fr the 2nd value selectin and having the utput ON. The effect in this case even thugh the display marks a different value the utput remains the first value USE OF THE EXTERNAL REFERENCE INPUTS The external reference input admits 2 types f signal; Current frm 0.1A up t 25A r Vltage frm 5V up t 300V, with frequencies between 40 and 70 Hz. This input is very useful as it allws the unit t wrk in a differential mde against the signal inputs. Because f the wide range f input values in bth vltage and current, it is capable t wrk with varius types f supply generatrs fr a signal reference. The Current input shuld be cnnected t the black tap marked "0" and the green tap marked A. The vltage input shuld be cnnected t the black tap marked "0" and the red tap marked 5-300V. PLEASE NOTE: The current input has a lw impedance SHUNT detectr. NEVER cnnect a vltage signal t this tap as it is equivalent t shrt-circuit. It can cause serius damage t the external vltage supply if it is nt prtected. When the reference cnnected is "valid", the LED indicatr situated t the left f the tap "0", will light up in the fllwing cases: When the reference is set in EXT. When the reference is set t Internal Frequency (Freq) in the mde F (Differential Frequency). THE SIGNAL MONITOR: Cnnected t the relays utput, infrms t the unit abut the status f the relay (Trip, Nt trip) THE MASTER/SLAVE CONTROL: The PTE 100 V can be intercnnected thrugh the PTE BUS with anther 100 V units, and, f curse, with any ther unit f the PTE Range (30 CH, 100 C, 300 V, 50 CET, etc.). In the first case, the intercnnectin f three 100 V s allws t have a full three phase system, even in cntrls (Three phase regulatin). This is the reasn why the Master/Slave Cntrl exists, giving t the PTE SYSTEM the maximum f flexibility and versatility available, t fill all the pssible applicatins in the relay testing SIGNAL MONITOR It is designed t receive the signals frm the relay being tested and the status is shwn in the LED indicatr marked "Mnitr" The signal mnitr are active (LED Mnitr lits) in the fllwing cnditins: When there is a vltage between the cmmn tap (black) and the vltage tap (red). This vltage can be between 5 t 250V in ac r dc. This input tap is prtected by a fuse clearly marked n the frnt panel. When there is a clsed, free f vltage, cntact between the cmmn tap (black) and the cntact tap (green). this input tap is prtected by a fuse clearly marked n the frnt panel. In bth f these cnditins, a red LED marked "mnitr" will light up. Be sure that, when cnnecting a signal t the green tap, it is vltage free. If nt, the prtectin fuse will break immediately
