GPS Antenna Simulation When located on the lateral sides of the Instruction Panel, the antenna radiates towards the center of the vehicle due to the door s metal content. For this simulation it was assumed that the windshield would have a minimal effect on the simulation results, and was therefore not included in this set of simulations. FAR FIELD AND EFIELD PATTERN FOR GPS ANTENNAS PLACED ON EITHER SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD Circularly polarized patch antenna on ceramic substrate 4 ANSYS, Inc. September 21,
Parametric Antenna Simulation Based on the last assumption, we will simulate two GPS antennas, where one antenna is placed on the instrument panel and a similar GPS antenna placed on the roof of the vehicle (in theory the best placement for a GPS signal reception). We will assume: Only the Instruction Panel Polypropylene material and the metallic roof are included in the model. A parametric model with variable roof length was used to simulate changing windshield angle. No glass material was going to be used (minimumeffect on GPS signal) The lateral metallic sides of the vehicle are removed Both antennas are going to be positioned towards the sky (normal to surface) PARAMETRIC MODEL - VARIABLE ANGLE 30 Degr ess 90 Degr ess 5 ANSYS, Inc. September 21,
Parametric Antenna Simulation The plot shows how the roof dimensions (or windshield angle) affects the transmission link between the transmitting antenna (placed on the roof) and the receiving antenna (placed on the Instruction Panel). The Near Field pattern of the transmitting antenna remains constant while the receiving antenna NF pattern decreases when the windshield angle approaches to 90 o. PARAMETRIC MODEL NEAR FIELD PATTERN ON TRANSMITTING AND RECEIVER ANTENNAS 6 ANSYS, Inc. September 21,
SI ANALYSIS DOOR WIRING HARNESS INTERFERENCE The wiring harness is the victim channel. We will study the EMI interference that an electronic device (PCB) will induce on the harness. PCB Incident Wave Source Wiring Harness 7 ANSYS, Inc. September 21, SI WAVE DESI GNER HFSS Models Courtesy of Fiat

Full Truck EMC Compliance Simulation The new HFSS technologies enables the full EMC test of a Full Truck. Further EMI studies can be carried out in order to study the interactions between ECUs, Wiring Harness, Radios, etc... The simulation below shows the E-Field plot of a 200MHz dipole antenna illuminating a Volvo truck. 17 ANSYS, Inc. September 21,
Demonstration of Full Truck EMC Compliance The electromagnetic field can be measured anywhere in the model. It is possible to observe on the plot that the electric field attenuates at places far from the dipole. The effects of the front shield glass and the metallic wall on the back of the cabin can be also seen (as default we do not set solve inside conductors, except when skin depth effect is taken into account). db(mag_e) m2 Name X Y m m Wind Shield m1 Glass Electric Field Through Window Metallic Wall HFSSDesign1 Curve Info db(mag_e) Setup1 : LastAdaptive Freq='0.2GHz' Phase='0deg' ANSOFT Distance [meter] 18 ANSYS, Inc.
