Section 1.0 The value of corporate identity 1.1 The role of corporate identity guidelines 1.2 Trademark considerations

The value of strong identity The role of corporate identity guidelines 1.1 The Austrian Airlines corporate identity is one of our key assets. It has the power to influence passengers to choose Austrian Airlines over competitor carriers, therefore it is essential we manage it carefully and consistently across all applications. Our corporate identity projects the values we wish to communicate to the public. The strength of this property lies in part in its consistent application; failure to apply the identity correctly can diminish its worth. The constant management and control of our corporate identity is a complex ongoing exercise which requires vigilance and commitment from staff at all levels. It is essential that you strictly adhere to the guidelines set out in this manual. Any object or communication tool which bears our corporate identity must work within the defined guidelines. The Austrian Airlines corporate identity should trigger a visual association across all its applications, whether aircraft, advertisement, ground vehicle or staff member. By working together to ensure our corporate identity permeates every facet of the airline, you can help us to sustain a strong competitive advantage. The following guidelines define and demonstrate the correct use of the core elements of our corporate identity with supporting methods of application and advice on reproduction. In exceptional circumstances where the design guidelines do not provide the necessary framework, you must immediately consult; Austrian Airlines, Corporate Identity Department, Head Office, Fontanastrasse 1, A-1107 Vienna, Austria. Telephone: (+43 1) , Fax: (+43 1) If you have any technical queries please contact any of the relevant numbers listed in section 16.3.

The value of strong identity Trademark considerations 1.2 Austrian Airlines has over many years registered trademarks to protect products and services in support of its marketing activities. These registered trademarks give us exclusive rights to their use and distinguish our products from other airlines and businesses. In most markets where people expect and even demand standardised merchandise and service, this exclusivity becomes a valuable asset. Successful trademarks become commercial assets in their own right and acquire their own good will. Once a stylised logo for a trademark has been adopted, it should be used only in that particular form. In text, the preferred means of ensuring that one of our trademarks is recognised as such is to reproduce it upper and lower case. for example: Austrian Airlines. Austrian Airlines makes applications for registration and maintains a portfolio of trademarks. Improper use of the trademark will not only dilute and impair recognition, but also may affect our ability to protect it legally. If you notice any apparent infringements, please contact the Corporate Identity Department. If you have any technical queries please contact any of the relevant numbers listed in section 16.3.

Section 2.0 Brand signature & identity components 2.1 The brand signature 2.2 Typographic component 2.3 Symbol component 2.4 The underline component

Brand signature & identity components The brand signature 2.1 The brand signature for Austrian Airlines encapsulates all the visual signals which are key to the brand identity. It is therefore important to ensure that the brand signature is always presented correctly in its complete form. The brand signature for Austrian Airlines consists of three components: the logotype, the symbol and the underline. All three components appear together as one locked element. When applying the brand signature always think of it as one design element. Always use the brand signature in its preferred layout as shown (or the alternative layout described in section 3.2). DO NOT re-arrange the components of the brand signature. DO NOT add to, frame or box-in the brand signature. DO NOT use the components individually. For alternative layout see section 3.2.

Brand signature & identity components Typographic component 2.2 The typographic component is one of the three elements which combine to create the brand signature. The typeface has been carefully drawn and crafted to project characteristics and qualities unique to both the country of Austria and Austrian Airlines approach to service, including inherent elegance, tradition, classicism, attention to detail and refinement. The brand signature is a unique type style and has been very carefully letter spaced for clarity and visual balance, to ensure its legibility at all sizes. Always reproduce this component from artwork/disc supplied. DO NOT attempt to reproduce this typeface from any visually similar serif font. Artwork is freely available from the Corporate Identity Department. See section 16.2 for details. There is a gridded version shown in section 3.4 which may be used for scaling purposes where photographic enlargement is not possible. DO NOT use the brand signature component without the symbol and underline. Remember the company name is Austrian Airlines. DO NOT attempt to edit the typographic component to Austrian for design or layout convenience. It is incorrect and inaccurate to do so. For identity construction see section 3.3. For colour reference see section 4.1.

Brand signature & identity components Symbol component 2.3 The company symbol is the second of the three component elements which combine to create the brand signature. The symbol component represents a key element of continuity from the past identity into the new identity. The symbol component is an arrow shaped wing. It is principally directed from left to right and always directed horizontally. (for exceptions see section 3.6). The symbol component should not appear by itself or be used to replace the brand signature or as a shorthand form of the brand signature. Always reproduce this component from disc supplied. All three components appear together as one locked element. Artwork is freely available from the Corporate Identity Department. See section 16.2 for details. The construction of the symbol is shown in section 3.4 and may be used to reconstruct the symbol when photographic reproduction is not possible. For symbol construction see section 3.4. For colour section reference see section 4.1.

Brand signature & identity components The underline 2.4 component The underline component is the third of the three component elements which combine to create the brand signature. The underline component is, in its optimum form, a vignette from white to blue, blending to green, then vignetting from green to white. In its optimum form, it provides an injection of the blue and green of the corporate colour palette into the brand signature. The brand signature should appear in full colour wherever possible, although other versions exist to enable the brand signature to be reproduced when colour reproduction processes are limited. See section 5. All three components appear together as one locked element. Never use the underline component in isolation. Always use the blue/green colour version of the underline against a white background. For examples of correct & incorrect use of the brand signature against coloured background see section 4.6. For details of the underline construction see sections 4 & 5.

Section 3.0 Brand signature component relationships 3.1 The standard arrangement 3.2 Alternative arrangement 3.3 Identity construction preferred arrangement Identity construction alternative arrangement 3.4 Symbol construction 3.5 Identity safe zone 3.6 Correct and incorrect use of elements 3.7 Legal signature

Brand signature component relationships The standard 3.1 arrangement There are two permissible arrangements of the brand signature (see also section 3.2 Alternative arrangement). The preferred arrangement consists of the Austrian Airlines typographic element and company symbol on one line. The company symbol is placed to the right of the typographic element and points to the right. Both typographic and symbol elements are underscored by the underline component. This arrangement of the brand signature should be used wherever possible when identifying the international airline. When applying the brand signature, always think of it as one design element. Only the proportions illustrated should be used. They should not be modified in any way. The brand signature should always appear against a white background, sitting freely in its own space, unboxed, without frames or typographic, symbolic or illustrative additions. Artwork is freely available from the Corporate Identity Department. See section 16.2 for details. Previous versions of the brand signature should be destroyed and not used for any purpose. For details of the exact relationships between elements see section 3.3. For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2.

Brand signature component relationships Alternative arrangement 3.2 In certain cases, it may be necessary to use the second permissible arrangement. The alterative arrangement has been specifically designed for use where the available width within a design layout area would restrict the size and impact of the one line preferred version. Here the two words of the typographic element are divided onto two lines with the symbol component appearing on the second line to the right of the word Airlines. A shortened version of the underline component sits beneath the typographic and symbol components. By stacking the typographic and symbol elements and shortening the underline component, the elements of the brand signature retain their size impact within a layout where width may restrict the size impression. When applying the alternative arrangement, always think of it as one design element. Only the proportions illustrated should be used. They should not be modified in any way. Colour preferences and specifications for both the preferred and alternative arrangements are the same. Artwork is freely available from the Corporate Identity Department. See section 16.2 for details. Previous versions of the brand signature should be destroyed and not used for any purpose. For details of the exact relationships between elements see section For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2.

Brand signature component relationships Identity construction preferred arrangement 10X SCHRIFTZUG, PFEILSYMBOL UND LINIE STELLEN EIN GESCHLOSSENES ELEMENT DAR. THE AUSTRIAN AIRLINES LOGOTYPE & SYMBOL ARE ONE LOCKED ELEMENT 10X 1X = 1/6 DER GERINGEREN SCHRIFTHÖHE 1X = 1/6 SMALL CAP HEIGHT 6X Here we illustrate the construction of, and relationship between, the three components of the one line version of the brand signature. 6X 1X Under normal circumstances it will not be necessary to reconstruct the identity in this manner, as the brand signature should always be reproduced from disc supplied, where the components will already be presented in this locked relationship. AUSTRIAN AIRLINES BRAND SIGNATURE CONSTRUCTION However, the diagram does illustrate the logical construction of distance between the components and, in particular, the proportions of the three elements, should it be necessary to regenerate the brand signature in exceptional circumstances (e.g. large scale reproduction in architecture, sign writing or new media). The fully gridded brand signature may be used for scaling purposes, where photographic enlargement is not possible. For information on the colour construction of the underline see section 5.3. For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2. GRID FOR SCALING PURPOSES ONLY

Brand signature component relationships 10X SCHRIFTZUG, PFEILSYMBOL UND LINIE STELLEN EIN GESCHLOSSENES ELEMENT DAR. THE AUSTRIAN AIRLINES LOGOTYPE & SYMBOL ARE ONE LOCKED ELEMENT 10X 1X = 1/6 DER GERINGEREN SCHRIFTHÖHE 1X = 1/6 SMALL CAP HEIGHT 6X Identity construction alternative arrangement Here we illustrate the construction of, and relationship between, the three components of the two line version of the brand signature. 3X 6X 6X 1X Under normal circumstances it will not be necessary to reconstruct the identity in this manner as the brand signature should always be reproduced from disc supplied, where the components will already be presented in this locked relationship. 15 Brand signature component relationships Symbol construction 3.4 B B A C C Under normal circumstances it will not be necessary to reconstruct the symbol component in this manner as the symbol component will always be reproduced within the brand signature and will therefore be provided for reproduction from disc supplied. If, in exceptional circumstances, it is necessary to reconstruct the symbol component, follow the instructions below. Step 1 (shown in green) Draw a square representing the desired height of the symbol. Draw a circle from the centre point of the square touching the four corners. Draw horizontal and vertical axes through the centre point, extending out beyond the circle. Step 2 (shown in yellow) The centre of the 2nd construction circle is found at the intersection of the horizontal rule and the first circle, to the right of the square (A). Its radius is found at the point where the vertical line intersects the square top and bottom (B). This point also forms the centre points of the 3rd and 4th circles to be drawn. The radius for each is found at the centre of the first circle drawn in step 2 (A). Step 3 (shown in blue) The centre points of the last 2 circles can be found at the intersections of the yellow circles (C). The radius for each circle is found at the centre of the yellow circles (B). Now all the elements are in position and the chevron can be constructed.

Brand signature component relationships 3X 3X Identity safe zone 3.5 6X 6X The identity safe zone provides a guide to the minimum space required by the brand signature to retain its clarity, legibility and visual integrity without interference from other graphic devices, symbols, illustrations and typography. 1X = 1/6 DER GERINGEREN SCHRIFTHÖHE 1X = 1/6 SMALL CAP HEIGHT 6X The safe zone denotes the minimum clear area required around the brand signature when reproduced. More space is preferable. Other graphic elements must not be placed within the safe zone. 1 LINE BRAND SIGNATURE SAFE ZONE 3X 3X In principle, the safe zone requires that a distance equal to the cap height of the typographic component is kept clear above and below, and half this distance to the sides. This ensures that the type, symbol and underline components will always appear visually locked and united in relationship without interference from surrounding graphic elements. 6X 6X The identity safe zone is an invisible guide line only and is not for print reproduction. It is not a frame and should not be used as an excuse to frame or box the brand signature. The units are based upon the same units of measurement shown in section 3.3 & i.e. X = 1/6 of small cap height. 6X 1X = 1/6 DER GERINGEREN SCHRIFTHÖHE 1X = 1/6 SMALL CAP HEIGHT 2 LINE BRAND SIGNATURE SAFE ZONE

Brand signature component relationships Correct and incorrect 3.6 use of elements * Except for vehicle livery. The illustrations indicate the correct uses and present some incorrect uses of the components which make up the brand signature. In principle, do no attempt to rearrange the components of the brand signature to meet perceived short-term layout requirements at the long-term expense of the brand identity. The brand identity s visual strength is dependant on consistency of presentation. There should be no need to alter the arrangement of the components that make up the brand signature. The last two examples show the negative effects of boxes, borders and panels on the brand signature. Never enclose the brand signature in this manner. * For vehicle and aircraft livery the symbol faces the direction of travel. This is the only permissible use of this version. Any solid colours

Brand signature component relationships Legal signature 3.7 Austrian Airlines, Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG LEGAL SIGNATURE IN THE CORPORATE TYPEFACE BERLING Austrian Airlines, Österreichische Luftverkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft ALTERNATIVE LEGAL SIGNATURE IN THE CORPORATE TYPEFACE BERLING The legal signature is the statement of the full legal name of the company: Austrian Airlines, Österreichische Luftverkehrs AG or Austrian Airlines, Österreichische Luftverkehrs- Aktiengesellschaft. This name indicates the Airline is an incorporated company with limited liability under Austrian law. The full legal name should be used when entering into a legal relationship with another party. Therefore the legal signature should appear on all business communications such as company letterheads, cheques, passenger tickets, purchase orders and all other documents of a contractual nature. The legal signature is presented only in typeset form and not as a logotype in a specially designed typeface. It should be presented as lowercase with initial capital letters, in the company typeface Berling. Note that the legal signature differs from the more familiar brand signature, which is always presented in logotype form. The brand signature is generally used for applications of a non-contractual nature, such as advertising, promotional materials, signage and internal stationery. 20 Brand signature colours The corporate 4.1 colour palette Alpinweiß Alpine White Fahnenrot Flag Red Anthrazitgrau Graphite Berggrün Mountain Green Seenblau Lake Blue Silber Silver The Austrian Airlines colour palette is intended to capture the essence of Austria. Dominant use of Alpine White is symbolic of the clean, crispness of Austria s snow capped Alpine peaks, while blue and green reflect the valleys, lakes and meadows of the Austrian countryside. Flashes of red on a white base reflect the Austrian national flag. Alpine White: Is the base colour for the Airline identity, providing a background for the brand identity and supporting corporate graphic design elements. Flag Red: Used exclusively for the symbol component of the brand signature*. Note. Flag red should never be used as a background colour for the brand signature. Graphite: Used for the typographic component of the brand signature. Note: In the two colour specification of the brand signature, graphite will replace blue and green in the underline component. Lake Blue: Used exclusively in the leading left hand side of the underline component. Mountain Green: Used exclusively in the right hand side of the underline component. Silver: Retained for use with premium sub-brands, e.g. Business Class and special circumstances. *For colour use options see sections 5.4 & 5.5.

Brand signature colours The optimum full 4.3 colour application CORPORATE COLOUR PALETTE FOR FULL COLOUR REPRODUCTION The full colour representation is the true and complete form of the corporate identity. It should be used for all direct communication, marketing, advertising and promotion to passengers and customers. The brand signature can be reproduced in a wide range of media and sizes and various solutions exist to overcome the reproduction limitations of certain processes. Where it is not possible to reproduce the brand signature in its full colour application, 2 and 1 colour variants exist, see page 4.4. For the brand signature colour options see section 5.4. For details on reproducing the brand signature see section 5. For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2. The symbol component prints in Flag Red. The underline component prints as a one colour blend in Graphite. We recommend that the two colour version of the brand signature be reserved for internal company use, or where budgetary constraints do not permit 4 or 6 colour applications. When producing the brand signature in 1 colour: The typographic, symbol and underline components print in Graphite or Flag Red. In newsprint or where spot/special colours are not available, the typographic, symbol and underline components print either as a solid black or as a 70% tint of black. For the brand signature colour options see section 5.4. For details on reproducing the brand signature see section 5. For colour palette and swatch references see section 4.1 & 4.2. 24 Brand signature colours Correct and incorrect 4.5 uses of colour The illustrations far left show all the acceptable uses of the brand signature in colour against its white background. The illustrations near left show some of the incorrect and unacceptable uses of colour for the corporate logo. In principle: Always use the colour specifications described in section 5 of this manual. Do not re-arrange the colour palette within the components of the brand signature. Do not introduce other/new colours to the components of the brand signature. * The logo reproduced in red is only to be used in exceptional circumstances. When colour availability is limited to Flag Red only or when directed to do so by Austrian Airlines Corporate Identity Department. For the logo colour options see section 5.4. * Except where only Flag Red is available Black use for newsprint and computer screen/digital use only All other colours

Brand signature colours Correct and incorrect uses 4.6 of background colour BRUSHED STEEL The preferred and correct corporate background colour for the brand signature and all related corporate graphic design is white. Where a natural material, which is light in tone and neutrally coloured forms the logical base for the brand signature, such as brushed steel, this too is an acceptable colour background. * The brand signature may only be reproduced on a dark background when specifically requested to do so by the Corporate Identity Department; Austrian Airlines, Corporate Identity Department, Head Office, Fontanastrasse 1, A-1107 Vienna, Austria. Telephone: (+43 1) , Fax: (+43 1) in which case all the components of the brand signature should print white out of that colour. REVERSED OUT* ONLY FOR SPECIAL APPLICATIONS

Reproducing the brand signature The brand signature 5.1 with blended underline For high quality reproduction The highest possible quality reproduction is achieved using 6 colours: 4 colour process CMYK and 2 special colours. The typographic component is printed in Graphite (Pantone 433) and the symbol in Flag Red (Pantone 485). The underline component is reproduced in 4 colour process using CMYK. If only 4 colour printing is available, the best reproduction of the brand signature is achieved by substituting Graphite (Pantone 433) for black (ie. Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Pantone 433). The typographic element prints solid Graphite (Pantone 433), instead of 94%K, 34%C, all other elements print using standard CMYK tints. If you are restricted to standard 4 colour process the typographic element of the brand signature should also be printed using standard CMYK tints. See page 5.4. Lithography (sheet fed/web) in 4 colour process and special colours. Electronic/digital (RGB). High quality decals. Fine silk screen (CMYK). Fine flexographic printing (CMYK newsprint). Gravure. Signwriting. Always ensure that the production process used gives the highest quality representation possible within the confines of the medium being used. For underline component colour construction see section 5.3. For maximum & minimum reproduction sizes see section 5.5. For the brand signature colour options available see section 5.4. For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2. FAHNENROT FLAG RED ANTHRAZITGRAU GRAPHITE BERGGRÜN MOUNTAIN GREEN SEENBLAU LAKE BLUE

Reproducing the brand signature The brand signature 5.2 with solid underline For Lesser quality reproduction A second version of the underline component has been specifically designed for areas where reproduction processes prohibit the use of the blended underline. The underline is printed from solid colours and has tapered ends which replicate the effect of the blended underline. This solid underline component has been designed exclusively for the following applications: Flexographic printing. Silk screen (where CMYK colour blending is not available). Blocking. Embossing. Embroidery. Signage (3D). Signage (internally illuminated). Reproduction onto textured surfaces. The solid underline component should never be used for: Lithograph printing. Electronic/digital (RGB). Fine silk screen (CMYK). Gravure. Signwriting. For underline component colour construction see section For brand signature colour options see section For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2. 48 Reproducing sub brands Subsidiary companies 6.9 The visual construction of the identities for subsidiary companies mirrors the construction of the Austrian Airlines brand signature. In each instance, the typographic component utilises the specially drawn Austrian Airlines Roman typeface. The symbol component is as before. The underline component sits the same distance (1 cap height) away from the baseline of the typography and is tailored in length to suit each of the company titles. These company identities should each be treated as locked units and should always be reproduced from artwork/disc supplied. In each case, the colour rules and print specifications outlined for reproduction of the Austrian Airlines corporate logo apply. Artwork is freely available from the Corporate Identity Department. See section 16.2 for details. Previous versions of the logo should be destroyed and not used for any purpose. For logo construction, printing restrictions, safe zone distances and colour options see section 5. For colour palette and swatch references see sections 4.1 & 4.2. SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES

Stationery & forms Stationery & forms introduction 8.1 The presentation and content of written communication from Austrian Airlines are a vital component in the projection of the company to our business partners, passengers and clients worldwide, encapsulating the business qualities of professionalism, clarity and consistency and the service values of accessibility and informality, with attention to detail and care. It is important that the written style and content of correspondence also relates to the visual presentation of the company. Your business correspondence is your own contribution to Austrian Airlines image, and each time you communicate with a client or associate by mail, you help define and differentiate Austrian Airlines from our international competitors. Simplicity is the key to the development of the Austrian Airlines corporate stationery and to its subsequent ease of use. The following pages will outline the positioning of corporate and typographic components on the pages, together with an outline of the positioning and application of text.

Stationery & forms Technical information 8.2 To achieve a consistent look across all of our stationery and forms, it is important that the following guidelines are adhered to. Paper sizes must conform to standard sizes. In Europe and many countries worldwide, metric stationery sizes will be used. The standard letterhead and continuation paper will be printed on A4 (210mm x 297mm) stock and subsequent stationery will ideally conform to A size formats. In the US, standard stationery sizes may be used if European sizes are unavailable. Paper stock should be high quality bright white, with a tight wove finish (not laid or coated). For stationery and forms the paper weight should be a minimum of 100gsm. and a maximum of 115gsm. For business cards, a minimum of 280gsm. and a maximum of 350gsm. Any paper which will be used in computer printers or photocopying should be tested for compatibility before purchasing. Pre-printed elements, the company logo, address and telephone numbers are centred on the paper. For external business communications, stationery is printed with the optimum full colour Brand Signature with supporting information in Graphite. For internal business communications, memos etc. the Brand Signature is reproduced in the single colour Graphite version or if not available in Black. Alternatively the 2 colour Graphite and Flag Red Brand Signature is used with supporting information in Graphite. The typeface used for supporting information on stationary is Berling. The type size is dependent on layout, but in normal use 10.5pt is the smallest acceptable size for text. See pages 8.3 to 8.11 for examples. Overprinted type should accuratly align with the pre-printed information and is generally ranged left For information on layout, paper and typeface see page 8.1. For more information on how to obtain artwork for stationery and forms see section For more information on the typeface Berling and the other corporate typefaces see section 7.

Uniforms Pilots uniforms 11.1 The contemporary double-breasted suit in classic marine blue is now worn with a white shirt and flag-red tie. This extrovert red lends the overall look crispness and links the design with the rest of the collection. The insignias of rank are woven in whitegold to complement the new range. The flag-red chevron symbol with whitegold wings adorns the markedly contoured pilots cap and the breast pocket of the suit jacket. To enhance this modern look, the material, cut and colour of the red jacket complement the elegant overall concept. PILOTS UNIFORMS

The pilots case. PILOTS UNIFORMS The short-sleeved shirt.

Uniforms The ladies collection 11.2 An important aspect of the ladies collection is the fact that a number of garments for cabin and ground staff have been designed as interchangeable options. For instance, staff may choose between skirt or trousers, both of which are available with or without front pleats. Likewise, there is a choice between body or blouse, either with long or short sleeves. Shoes are available in different heel heights and widths, so as to ensure the necessary safety and comfort. Those serving in the summer and in hotter climates have the choice of two natural shades of tights, or the opaque red tights. For the winter months the opaque red tights set off the ensemble particularly well. LADIES COLLECTION

Uniforms The men s collection 11.3 The most striking feature of the appearance of the ground staff and male cabin staff is the red blazer. They create the link with the women s look and at the same time make a bold, modern statement on behalf of their wearers and the company. A white shirt, silver tie and anthracite trousers with black shoes and silver buckles are the classic combination. The image is rounded off by the red lined jacket. When the waistcoat is not being worn to set off the blazer, it is the in-flight service uniform. The white bistro jacket is only worn on long-haul flights in the Grand Class. MEN S COLLECTION

Uniforms The collection for 11.4 technical staff In this area, safety and practicality are the top priority. Solutions have been found for all areas, activities and weather conditions which meet the exacting technical demands made of them. Flag-red combined with silver-grey is the unifying factor which, together with top quality tailoring and materials, gives wearers a heightened sense of esprit de corps, as well as making them easily visible. This systematic concept has, for the first time, given all staff a place in a unified Corporate Design that carries conviction. TECHNICAL AND HANGAR STAFF
