To reinforce brand, Brandon Grotesque is the preferred typeface for headlines, subheads and body copy. For text used in supporting capacities as part of call-out boxes, side bars and other non-essential text, Museo Slab is the preferred typeface. Many users who are not professional designers will not have access to Brandon Grotesque and Museo Slab typeface families. For those who cannot access those typefaces, substitute Calibri for all headlines, subheads and body copy. Calibri is found in most word processing and presentation software programs (such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint). This font should also be used in interactive applications such as html.
4 Taking and Selecting Photos When taking and choosing photographs for customized materials, you will want to be sure that you are selecting photographs that help represent your program, your students and in the most positive light. Photo Library A library of professionally shot photos is available on website ( under the Photo Library heading. These are available for your download and use as needed, so long as they are used for purposes. Stock Photography If you choose to conduct a search for stock photography, select images that are more casual and natural feeling. Look for dynamic photos that show students and teachers interacting candidly. We always encourage using photos in which subjects look happy and engaged. Shooting New Photographs Should you decide to take your own photos using your students, teachers and partners, be sure to give consideration to the equipment you use and the backgrounds and settings. Tips for taking great photos for collateral materials: Be sure the students, teachers, business leaders and others that you photograph reflect the diversity of your district. Be sure that audiences see themselves in the photos you use. Think about appropriate attire for photos. Encourage students to wear outfits that are more like what they would wear at their internships and less like what they wear on Saturday. Avoid apparel with s, busy patterns, a lot of solid white and neon colors. When you are shooting, think about lighting. Turn on some extra lights and make sure your subjects are in the light if the light is behind your subjects, they may be difficult to see. Think about the angles and perspective of your photos. It s best to shoot your subjects from their own level, rather than with the camera angling down. If your subjects are sitting, crouch or sit when you take the photo. In terms of framing, your subjects do not always need to be centered in the photo. Try centering on other parts. Similarly, try taking photos from different angles. Get low or move to the side and see how the photo looks like from there. And it s almost always a good idea to shoot from closer rather than farther away. A group of two to three people should mostly fill the frame. One person should take up one-third to half of the frame. Be sure to take multiple shots, including both horizontal and vertical options. You want to be able to select your best photo from a variety of options. You may also find you have needs for both vertically and horizontally oriented photos. Don t pose your subjects. Instead have you subjects act naturally and try to capture moments as they are walking down the hall, working on a group project, etc. But do avoid photographing subjects with their back to the camera, unless that is a deliberate artistic choice.
