4 ESA uses its multi-mission ground systems to acquire, process, archive and distribute data from other satellites. The data is distributed under specific agreements with the owners or operators of the mission, following the ESA Data Policy.
5 How to apply for data access within a Category 1 use framework Application for Category 1 use data access can be submitted to ESA at any time using the ESA Earth Observation Principal Investigator portal ESA Data Policy
6 ESA EO Data policy defined by ESA Member States: to maximize the beneficial use of data from ESA EO satellites to stimulate a balanced development of science, public utility and commercial applications, consistent with the mission objectives Two categories of use: Research & Applications Development Category 1 All ESA data available (except ASAR HR) esa using ESA facilities/stations Costs of reproduction (for delivery on media) Free on Internet Cat.1 use Terms & Conditions Operational & Commercial use ASAR HR Category 2 competing Distributing Entities using ESA facilities and/or agreements with non-esa stations costs defined by competing Distributing Entities
7 Main points: Category 1 use Terms & Conditions Each PI shall sign the Category 1 use Terms & Conditions to use the data only within the project team (i.e. PI and co-pis) and only for the purpose described in the project proposal i.e. no data redistribution outside the Cat.1 use project team to widely publish the project results in scientific publications or presentations with data citation: [mission or instrument] Data provided by European Space Agency (to facilitate ESA web searching of publications, and subsequent reporting on mission/instrument achievements)
