7 Automating the creation of image files for OCPA Electronic Members Only Competitions By Tony Mason On September 22nd (second meeting of the month just in time to prepare your images for October 6th s Traditional EID, submission deadline 10/05 by midnight), Tony will demonstrate, step-by-step, how to create an Action in Photoshop (and why we do those steps and options). It will automatically set the color space to srgb, resize it to 1024 pixels on the long dimension and allow you to easily save it as a jpg (and rename it according to our competition s file naming convention). Plus we will go step-by-step to do similar things in Adobe Camera RAW (there is a reason to know both), and Lightroom (since a number of our members are now subscribed to the PS/LR bundle). Handouts will be provided (its two pages, they are very simple step listings), but bring a pencil/pen so you can make notes. A more complete how-to will be provided via a link on the internet after the meeting (a 15 page pdf) and provided in October s newsletter. After this training, there should be no issues with file sizes, color space and file names (I hope insert smiley face with a wink here). SHOOTOUT CEDAR CREEKI GRIST MILL, Woodland WA October 25 and 26 Get ready for a 2 day adventure in WA. Apple Cider Pressing will be going on the 25 th and Mount St. Helens is a short distance from the town of Woodland (just 22 miles from Portland along the I-5). There are several RV parks, campgrounds and hotels/motels in the area. Cedar Grist Mill Dick Chambers Make your plans now to join us. TIME TO START GETTING READING FOR THE ANNUAL FALL PONY VILLAGE MALL SHOW AND SALE! WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 5 5:30 PM - Set up Pony Village Mall Show THURSDAY-SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6-9 Pony Village Mall Show and Sale Mall Hours SUNDAY TAKE DOWN 5 PM Complete rules are available on our website under Downloads or talk to Bonnie Smith our chairperson. Sign-up sheets will be available soon. 7
8 Trivia Question From, Curt Benward Who made Japan s first 35mm focal plane shutter camera? It was produced by a small shop in Tokyo, the Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory, in prototype form in The camera was called the Kwanon, which later evolved into the Hansa Canon. Yes, Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory became the Canon company we know today. However, as Paul Harvey used to say here is the rest of the story. (If you don t know who Paul Harvey is ask a club member over the age of 50.) Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory (Canon) had problems procuring lenses and the rangefinder components. Nippon Kogaku, a company that made mostly military optical equipment, came to the rescue. Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory and Nippon Kogaku entered into an agreement to develop the Hansa Canon. This first Canon camera was released in February Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory was responsible for the main body including the focal plane shutter and the assembly of the camera. Nippon Kogaku was responsible for the lens and rangefinder mechanism. The lens was a 50mm f 3.5 Nikkor. You guessed it Nippon Kogaku became Nikon and that is the rest of the story.
