11 From the Desk of Regional Advisor Director, Charlotte Rierson Congrats to Our Regional Advisors that got into the Juried Annual Exhibition. The Regional Advisors are Sandy Barksdale, Cotter; John E. Kellar, Searcy; Linda Larey, Texarkana; Sheila Parson-Talley, Conway; Cynthia Schanink, Mt. Nebo; Richard Stephens, Hot Springs. Our Regional Advisors graciously volunteer their time in promoting MSW programs and special events. Please look in your MSW Director for the Advisor in your area. They are listed from where they reside. There is a map color coded for their region. I personally want to thank these outstanding Regional Advisors. They are great artists and recognized leaders in our Art World. Special congrats to Regional Advisors, Richard Stephens MSW Silver Award Winner and Sheila Parsons-Talley the Doris Wmson Mapes Memorial Award winner. The Language of Art (This comes from a deck of cards recently purchased at the Cleveland Museum of Art, copyright Dona Budd) Diptych, Triptych, Polytych A diptych is a pair of hinged panels, based on the form of ancient writing tablets that are painted or carved. A triptych is a set of three such panels, the outer panels or wings hinged so that they can fold inward to cover the center panel. A polytych is composed of more than three hinged panels. This form was originally used as part of the Catholic altarpiece that appeared early in the thirteenth century and portrayed religious subjects. It was not unusual for portraits of patrons, in devotional attitudes, to appear in side panels. An exquisite example of a triptych is the Portinare Altarpiece (c. 1475) in the Uffizi gallery in Florence.
