1 August 17, 2018 Oakland Art Association ebulletin The Orinda Library Show went up as planned about two weeks ago and has exceeded all expectations. Over 90 entries, and 6 pieces from the show have sold so far. The show catalog is attached, and images of the art can be viewed from our website Pick up your artwork from the Orinda Show at the Library, between 10am and 11am on Friday, August 31 st. There has been a change in the pick-up location for the Abstract Show! Entries will be available for you to pick-up on Friday August 31 st together with entries from the Orinda Show all together at the Orinda Library between 10 and 11am. The City Hall Show kicks off on Wednesday September 5 th! (The rules for this show are attached for all the details.) The pre-registration for this show closed a few days ago, and Chairman John Henry reports that we have a full compliment and good variety of work lined up for the show. Street parking is sometimes difficult a around City Hall, and although there is a big garage across 14th street, it s expensive --- BART is an excellent option to avoid these problems for both the take in and to attend the reception. The hosted reception for the City Hall Show will be at 4:00pm on Tuesday September 11 th. We expect several City dignitaries, and a good turnout will make a positive statement for our Association. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend! The flyer for the City Hall show (by Joan Gombos) is attached to this ebulletin, please forward it on to your friends and patrons inviting them to the reception. The Judge for this show will be Pablo Villicaña Lara his Statement is attached for your information. Don t forget to plan for the next Chamber Show, which comes less than ten days after the City Hall Show on Friday September 14 th (Rules and details are attached)! Recently, several juried show entries have been submitted without the REQUIRED full width hanging wire across the back of the 2D art. This is very important, please no more saw tooth hangers!

6 Artwork by Pablo Villicaña Lara With each painting I try to achieve a quality of light that you can almost feel, clarity of color, strength of composition, and sense of spirituality, sometimes through my strong connection with my culture and sometimes with my quirky sense of humor. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA and Master of Fine Arts in Drawing with Distinction from College of the Arts in Oakland, CA. After creating with oils for several years as well as ceramics, pastel and textiles, discovering the quality of light and clarity of colors that could be achieved with watercolors changed the course of my artistic career and have worked with them for the past 26 years. I have received numerous awards including Best of Show for the Society of Western Artists, many first, second, third and honorable mention awards with the California Watercolor Association, included in the American Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society, Northwest Watercolor Society as well as other Societies, the International Guild of Realism and included in the International Watercolor Society Mexico's inaugural exhibition and Canada's Biennale Exhibition. I have been an art instructor for the past 20 years as well as guest demonstrator for various art societies and conducted several watercolor workshops. I was raised in both Mexican and American cultures; most of my images reflect my deep respect and connection to my Mexican/Native heritage.
