1 WHAT IS ON MY OWN TIME? On My Own Time (OMOT) is an annual, regional art competition featuring the artistic talents of people who work for companies, non-profit and governmental agencies throughout North Texas. Each year, area companies and organizations hold in-house exhibitions featuring artwork that was created outside of working hours by their employees, Winners in each of eleven categories such as painting, black and white photography and sculpture, are selected by arts experts who act as jurors. In addition, the jurors select a Best of Show winner. Employees are asked to vote for a eople s Choice awardee. Works that have been awarded a First rize and Best of Show in each category are selected to move on to the regional exhibit, where the best artworks from all of the companies involved are exhibited together at Northark Center during September On My Own Time, now in its twentieth year, is a trademarked program of Business Council for the Arts. UNT IS ARTICIATING BECAUSE: On My Own Time gives UNT an excellent opportunity to publicly recognize, and encourage, the creativity of our employees. On My Own Time gives employees at all professional levels, from the university president to the newly hired, a chance to participate together on a campus-wide project. On My Own Time sparks conversation and engages our community in a shared celebration of creativity. On My Own Time will help UNT discover some of the finest and most talented artists in the region working for us in a variety of capacities. RULES FOR ON MY OWN TIME ELIGIBILITY: All UNT employees may participate. Student workers, however, are ineligible. NUMBER OF WORKS ACCETED: A maximum of two entries per person. CLASSIFICATIONS: Artists may enter their work in Division A (for Amateur ) or (for rofessional ). If the answer to either of the criteria below is yes, the artist must enter Division. lease note that it is possible for an artist to be a rofessional in one category and an Amateur in another. Awards, exhibitions, and sales directly related to On My Own Time do not automatically place artist into professional category. Division (rofessional) Criteria The artist routinely sells and/or exhibits his or her work in the category they are entering. The artist is employed in an art related job and the category he/she is entering is related to their profession. Examples of occupations falling in the rofessional division are: art/design faculty, architects entering artwork containing structural drawings, photographers entering photographs, graphic or advertising artists, or illustrators entering graphic artwork. If the person is entering artwork in a category that differs from their professional field, they will be considered an amateur. lease note: The submitted entry must have been completed on your own time and not for your position at UNT.

2 ALL ENTRIES MUST BE THE ORIGINAL WORK OF THE ARTIST. Categories of art works accepted: 1. Works on Canvas (oils, acrylics, and other paints. on traditional canvas) 2. Works on aper (drawings, prints, watercolors, collage on paper) 3. Black and White hotography 4. Color hotography 5. Enhanced hotography and Computer Art (photographs that have been significantly enhanced, altered, and/or manipulated, whether by computer software, by hand, or by other methods, as well as hard copies of other computer-generated art) 6. Sculpture 7. Ceramics and Wood (not including sculpture) 8. Jewelry and Metal (not including sculpture) 9. Mixed Media (use of more than one medium in a work of art) 10. Textiles/Fiber Art (an object utilizing fabric, yarn, thread or textiles, including but not limited to the following techniques: weaving, quilting, needlework-embroidery, needlepoint, crocheting, tatting, knitting, sewing, basketry, wearable art, rugs and surface designs such as batik, etc.) 11. Video/Film/Animation. Weight restrictions: Works of art can weigh no more than 60 pounds. Complicated or heavy works may require the artist s participation in moving or installation. Works deemed excessively heavy, complex to install or fragile may not be accepted. Size restrictions: Works of art in which any dimension exceeds six feet are ineligible for exhibit due to space limitations. Video/Film/Animation Format: Works should be submitted on a DVD or Thumb Drive, or a URL provided. Framing: All works designed to be hung must be framed and/or ready for hanging, using sturdy wire or another secure method. Lighter two-dimensional works may be mounted on board or shrinkwrapped utilizing appropriate hangers on the back. Works not meeting this requirement will be disqualified. Artists are encouraged to provide the best quality frame possible for twodimensional works. Labeling: Each entry must be labeled with the artist s name, title, medium, price/value and category of the work at the company exhibition and upon delivery, if selected for the regional exhibition. Labels should be attached to the back or bottom of the work. Formal exhibition labels will be produced for the exhibitions. TYES OF WORK THAT WILL NOT BE ACCETED: 1. Any work of art that is not respectful of the differences among us in gender or gender orientation, race, ethnicity, age, or religious views will not be permitted. 2. Works of art that are not suitable for a family venue, including viewing by young children, will not be allowed. 3. Artworks created from a kit. Kits are defined as anything made from a pattern that is

3 not the original work of the artist, including but not limited to: needlework kits, patterns from a book, and woodworking kits with patterns. 4. Works of art that are not properly prepared for exhibit and labeled will be returned to the artist and not exhibited. JURYING OF ART WORKS The Business Council for the Arts will assign an art expert from the community to jury the works, selecting a winner in each category. Following are the jurors guidelines: Number and Types of Awards The juror is asked to select award-winning works of art based on creativity and craftsmanship. The juror will select a First lace winner in each of the ten categories and one Best of Show winner. Best of Show must be one of the first-place winners. The juror will be asked to select Second and Third lace winners, as well as Honorable Mentions in each category. In addition, viewers will be asked to help select a eople s Choice award to a work of art and this work is also eligible to be exhibited at Northark Center. No more than two entries from any one artist may win a place in the region-wide exhibition, with an exception made if one artist wins both Best of Show and eople s Choice for two different entries. If the jurors believe that the quality of artwork submitted in any one category does not merit a First lace Award, there will be no First lace winner in that category. DELIVERY AND ICK-U The UNT employees exhibition will be held at UNT on the Square (UNTSQ) in Denton. Address: 109 N. Elm Street. Telephone: Employees are responsible for delivering and picking up all artwork for the exhibition to UNTSQ. Artists must reclaim their work after the close of the UNTSQ exhibit. Those entries selected for the region-wide show should be returned to UNTSQ by September 10 for inclusion in the Northark exhibition. UNTSQ is responsible for delivering and picking up entries for the Northark region-wide show. If an artist chooses to deliver and pick up his or her own artwork, UNTSQ will provide them with a delivery location map and detailed information, including delivery and pickup times. UBLICATION RIGHTS UNT and the Business Council for the Arts reserve the right to publish any entry.
