Please note that many fabrics are directional prints. The cutting instructions are written to yield patches where the print is oriented correctly. After cutting the pieces listed below, reserve all uncut yardage for appliqués. From Fabric A: (1) 7-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 4-1/2" wide x 7-1/2" high and (4) 21-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high pieces. (4) 2-1/2" strips for the outer border. From Fabric B: (1) 6-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 2-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high and (4) 6-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high pieces. (4) 2-1/2" strips for the outer border. From Fabric C: (1) 6-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 1-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high, (4) 2-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high and (4) 9-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high pieces. (1) 3-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 9-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high pieces. (4) 2-1/2" strips for the outer border. (Cutting instructions continued on next page) page 2

3 Cutting Instructions (continued): From Fabric D: (1) 10-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 1-1/2" wide x 10-1/2" high, (4) 6-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high and (4) 6-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high pieces. (4) 2-1/2" strips for the outer border. From Fabric E: (1) 9-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 1-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" high, (4) 2-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" high and (8) 10-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high pieces. (4) 2 1/2" strips for the outer border. From Fabric F: (7) 2-1/4" strips for the binding. From Fabric G: (1) 6-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 6-1/2" x 6-1/2" squares. (2) 5-1/2" strips. Recut into (8) 5-1/2" x 10-1/2" pieces. From Fabric H: (4) 6-1/2" strips. Recut into (4) 6-1/2" x 21-1/2" pieces. From Fabric K: (1) 9-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 7-1/2" x 9-1/2" pieces. (4) 2-1/2" strips for the outer border. From Fabric N: (1) 6-1/2" strip. Recut into (4) 6-1/2" x 6 1/2" squares and (1) 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" square. (5) 2-1/2" strips for the inner border. Make the Appliqués: 1. Print out the paper patterns provided making sure the "do not scale" option is selected during printing. 2. Using the printed patterns and template plastic, make templates for each motif. 3. Trace the indicated number of each template onto the paper side of the fusible webbing, leaving at least 1/2" margin between traced shapes. 4. Cut out each shape 1/4" beyond the traced line and fuse to the wrong side of the appropriate fabric, keeping each shape oriented correctly on the directional print fabrics. 5. Cut out each motif on the traced line. 6. Using the quilt pictured as a guide, fuse the appliqués to the appropriate background fabric, layering the appliqués where shown and making sure the motifs are centered on the background pieces. 7. Using matching thread and the decorative machine stitch of your choice, overcast all raw edges of each appliqué shape. (Sewing instructions on following pages) page 3

4 Sewing Instructions: All seams are sewn with right sides together, raw edges even, and 1/4" seam allowance. Make The Tomato Sections: Stitch a 2-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high Fabric B piece to the left hand side of a 6-1/2" tomato appliqué square. Repeat to make a total of (4) tomato sections. Make The Onion Sections: Stitch a 1-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high Fabric C piece to the left-hand side of an onion appliqué square. Stitch a 2-1/2" wide x 6-1/2" high Fabric C piece to the right-hand side of the square. Stitch a 9-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high Fabric C piece to the bottom and a 9-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high Fabric C piece to the top of the square. Repeat to make a total of (4) onion sections. Make The Eggplant Sections: Stitch a 1-1/2" wide x 10-1/2" high Fabric D piece to the left-hand side of an eggplant appliqué block. Stitch a 6-1/2" wide x 3-1/2" high Fabric D piece to the bottom of the block. Stitch a 6-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high Fabric B piece to the bottom of the unit. Stitch a 6-1/2" wide x 2-1/2" high Fabric D piece to the top to complete the section. Repeat to make a total of (4) eggplant sections. (Sewing instructions on following pages) page 4

5 Sewing Instructions (continued): Make The Pepper Sections: Stitch a 2-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high Fabric A piece to the bottom of a pepper appliqué block. Stitch a 4-1/2" wide x 7-1/2" high Fabric A piece to the left side of the block. Repeat to make a total of (4) pepper sections. Make The Pea Sections: Stitch a 1-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" high Fabric E piece to the left-hand side of a pea appliqué block. Sew a 2-1/2" wide x 9-1/2" high Fabric E piece to the right-hand side of the block. Stitch 10-1/2" wide x 1-1/2" high Fabric E pieces to the top and bottom. Repeat to make a total of (4) pea sections. Quilt Assembly and Finishing: 1. Mark the center point on one side of the 2-1/2" Fabric N square. Using a partial seam, join a tomato section to the Fabric N square, starting at the center point and stitching as shown. Working in a clockwise manner, add each tomato section to the center square, noting orientation of the appliqués. Finish the partial seam to complete the center section. 6 Quilt Assembly and Finishing (continued): 2. Referring to the diagram, stitch an onion section to the left-hand side and a pea section to the right-hand side of an eggplant block, noting orientation of each unit. Stitch this unit to the bottom of a pepper section. Stitch an eggplant section to the left-hand side of this unit to complete one quilt quadrant. Repeat to make a total of (4) quadrants. 3. Repeat the procedure from step 1 and referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, add the (4) quilt quadrants to the quilt center section as shown. 4. Trim the selvages from the 2-1/2" Fabric N strips and sew the strips together end to end to make a long 2-1/2 strip. From this long strip cut (2) 52-1/2 and (2) 48-1/2 lengths. Stitch the shorter pieces to the left and right sides of the quilt top. Sew the longer pieces to the top and the bottom. 5. Sewing lengthwise, join 2-1/2" strips from each of Fabrics A, B, C, D, E and K in the order shown in the diagram. Repeat to make a total of (4) identical strip sets. From these strip sets, cut a total of (20) 6-1/2" wide segments. 6. Stitch together enough strip set segments to make (2) units of (26) segments and (2) units of (32) segments. Stitch the shorter units to the right and left sides of the quilt top. Sew the longer borders to the top and bottom. 7. Layer the completed quilt top with batting and backing and quilt as desired. 8. Trim the finished quilt and bind using the 2-1/4" Fabric F strips. page 6 (Templates on following pages)
