4 lock ssembly ll seam allowances are 1/4 wide. 1. rrange (2) 3 1/2 ark #1 () and ark #2 () in two rows as shown. Sew together in rows and press the seam allowances toward the ark. 5 Quilt-Top ssembly 1. rrange the blocks in the required number of rows for your quilt (see Quilt Statistics on page 24). Sew together in rows and press the seams in opposite directions from row to row so the seams will nest when the rows are joined. 2. Sew the rows together and press the seam allowances in one direction. 3. Sew the 2 -wide inner border strips together with diagonal seams and press the seam allowances open. Repeat with the 6 1/2 -wide outer border strips. Figure 5 4. Measure the quilt-top length through the center and cut two inner border strips to match. Sew to the opposite edges of the quilt-top and press the seam allowances toward the borders. Measure the quilt-top width through the center and cut two inner border strips to match. Sew to the top and bottom edges of the quilt-top. Press the seam allowances toward the borders. 5. Measure the quilt-top length and cut 4 outer border strips to match (width and length of the quilt should be the same). Sew the side borders to the opposite edges of the quilt-top. Press the seam allowances toward the outer borders. 6. Sew a four-patch corner square to opposite ends of the top and bottom outer borders. Press the seam allowances toward the borders. Sew the borders to the top and bottom edges of the quilt top. Press the seam allowances toward the borders. Figure 5. Quilt Finishing Refer to the special handout, acking and inding Your Quilts. 1. Layer the finished quilt top with batting and backing; baste. Quilt as desired. 2. Prepare and sew the binding to the quilt and add a label to the back. Page 28
