Block 3 and 3a E Cut 16 white pieces 3 ½ by 6 ½ C Cut 8 pieces of light green 3 7/8 by 3 7/8 and Cut once diagonally to make 16 pieces Cut 8 white with black print pieces 3 ½ by 6 ½ F Cut 32 pieces black print 3 ½ by 3 ½ Sew 4 B sections to the 4 sides of A being careful to maintain ¼ seam allowances and not stretch the bias edges. Press. They should measure 4 ½ by 4 ½. Set 4 aside and label as Block 1a. To the remaining 4 sew 4 C sections to each side of the piece. They should measure 6 ½ by 6 ½. Press and label this set Block 1. Cut 16 pieces white 3 ½ by 3 ½ Draw a diagonal line on the back of all 48 F pieces with a pencil. Take one white piece E and one black print piece F and place them right sides together on the corner as shown and sew diagonally. Trim and press to side. Place a second 3 ½ square on the opposite side with right sides together and sew diagonally as shown. Trim. Press. Make 16 with these colors. Set 8 aside and Label as Block 3a.

Do the same thing with the remaining 8 white/black print E pieces and 16 white F pieces to make the additional 8 flying geese. Sew one of each color set together as pictured. Press.

Do this 4 times to make 4 sections. Press. They should measure 6 ½ by 12 ½. Block 6 J Cut 4 rectangles medium green 6 ½ by 12 ½. Press. Label as Block 6.

Place 1 white and 1 white/black print right sides together. Using the drawn line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the line and press open. Do this twice.

3 Do the same thing with the remaining 8 white/black print E pieces and 16 white F pieces to make the additional 8 flying geese. Sew one of each color set together as pictured. Press. They should measure 6 ½ by 6 ½. Makes 8 blocks. Label this set Block 3. Block 4 Cut 1 square medium green 12 ½ by 12 ½. Press. Label Block 4. Block 5 Join 1 Block 5 to 2 Bock 3a pieces as pictured. Do this 4 times to make 4 sections. Press. They should measure 6 ½ by 12 ½. Block 6 J Cut 4 rectangles medium green 6 ½ by 12 ½. Press. Label as Block 6. Make Center of Quilt Join all the center squares on the quilt as pictured. I Cut 2 white and 2 white/black print 7 ¼ by 7 ¼ Draw a diagonal line on the back of the white/black print pieces. Place 1 white and 1 white/black print right sides together. Using the drawn line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the line and press open. Do this twice. Draw a diagonal line on the back all 4 of these opposite the original seam line. Place 2 squares right sides together with the white on the white/black piece and the white/black on the white, aligning the sewn diagonal seam. Using the drawn line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the line and press open. This makes 4 hourglass blocks. They should measure 6 ½ by 6 ½.

4 Block 7 K Cut 8 squares white 4 7/8 by 4 7/8 Cut 8 squares white/black print 4 7/8 by 4 7/8 Draw a diagonal line on back of white/black print pieces. Place 1 white and 1 white/black print right sides together. Using the line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from the line. Cut on the line and press open. Do this eight times. Press. They should measure 4 ½ by 4 ½. Label these 16 pieces block 7. Draw a diagonal line on the back all 8 of these opposite the original seam line. Place 2 squares right sides together with the one white on the medium green piece and the other white on the light green, aligning the sewn diagonal seam. Using the drawn line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the drawn line and press open. They should measure 4 ½ by 4 ½. This makes 4 hourglass blocks. Label these 4 pieces block 8. Block 8 L Cut 8 white squares and 4 medium green square and 4 white green square 5 ¼ by 5 ¼ Draw a diagonal line on back of all of the green pieces. Place 1 of the white and 1 of the medium green square right sides together. Using the drawn line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the line and press open. Do this four times. Block 9 Using blocks 1a, 7 and 8 make the 4 border corner squares as pictured. They should measure 12 ½ by12 ½. Place 1 of the white squares and 1 of the light green squares right sides together. Using the line as a guide, sew 2 seams a scant 1/4 away from each side of the line. Cut on the line and press open. Do this four times.

Block 10 - Borders Cut 4 strips white 36 ½ by 2 Cut 4 strips black print 36 ½ by 1 Finishing the Quilt

Cut 4 strips white/black print 36 ½ by 1 Sew together sandwiching the black print between the other 2

Sew each of these strips to the strips made above joining the white/black print to the stripe print.

5 Block 10 - Borders Cut 4 strips white 36 ½ by 2 Cut 4 strips black print 36 ½ by 1 Finishing the Quilt Layer the quilt top, batting and backing and quilt. Bind using your favorite method. Cut 4 strips white/black print 36 ½ by 1 Sew together sandwiching the black print between the other 2 colors. Do this to make 4 strip sets. Cut 4 strips of the stripe print 36 1/2 by 10. Sew each of these strips to the strips made above joining the white/black print to the stripe print. They should measure 36 ½ by 12 ½. Take 2 of these strips and attach to opposite side of the quilt. Take the remaining Block 10 strips and sew a Block 9 square on each end
