Again, you ll need {2}, use the reverse templates for the other side F F G Now, let s put these parts together... 3

5 A D And the top of the block, the easy half! C I Use the Green A & I, rown C and Orange D E F G H H Sew the rown C to the side of the Green I Sew the Orange D to the end of the rown Cr Sew those parts together Add the Green A to either side Sew the block halves together! 4

J I C K And the top half - Sew the Dk rown C piece to the J/I piece just made Sew the Dk rown J piece to the Green I piece And the Green A pieces to either side of the J/I/C piece just made Sew them together and what do you have? 9 Now, we re going to make the inside sashing - see the sashing around the white area s. I ve blocked the view of the center blocks, to more easily focus on the inside sashing. If you prefer, you could also make a plain sashing, like on the outer rows of the quilt, it s up to you. It s nice to have options! Cutting Directions for Plain Sashing on the whole quilt: Dk rown - Cut {25} 2½ squares (cornerstones) Gold - Cut {40} rectangles 9½ x 2½ sashing strips Cutting Directions for the Faux Plaid in the center: Dk rown - Cut {9} 2½ squares (R) Cut {24} rectangles 2 x 2½ (S) Gold - Cut {24} rectangles 2½ x 1¼ (T) Cut {12} rectangles 2½ x 4½ (U) T S U S T Make {12} if these sections 8

10 If you want your top sashing strip to be long like mine, you ll cut {1} strip 20 x 2½ Then cut {26} Gold Sashing strips for the remainder of the quilt And cut {16} 2½ squares for the remainder of the quilt Layout your center sashing sections as shown, then add the Cornerstones It may be easier to layout your pieces like this for the center and sew the sections together with the Cornerstones 9 before adding the plain sashing strips to the outside

11 If you want to embroider your sashing strips before assembling the quilt top, you ll need to find a handwriting font (or another kind if you d prefer) on your computer. Use your Paint or Word program to enlarge the font to fit in 2 of height. You can transfer the words to the sashing strips any number of ways - with a Lightbox taped onto a bright window dressmaking carbon paper I use a blue washable pen to mark, but some people like to use a fine line permanent market such as a Pigma Pen, it s up to you. Hand embroider or machine embroider, your choice. You may want to mark the words on the strips, assemble your quilt and then embroider the words. Just do whatever works best for you, there is no hard and fast rule. See next page for assembly. 10

12 Cut {5} 2½ x w.o.f. from Gold fabric for binding. Sew your top together, sandwich and quilt. Add the binding, and you re done!
