1 Cypress Head Lines Susan Lowe, Editor 6498 Cypress Springs Pkwy July 2018 Pat Sieber, Judy & Hal Armbrust, Circulation 1157 Rivercrest Court Hurricane Season Is Here Again Preparedness is the name of the game and it can t wait until the last minute. The first thing is to have a disaster plan; if not written down at least formulated in your mind. Identify a safe room in your home and place pillows, flashlight, battery operated radio, blankets and water there along with your emergency kit. Have extra batteries. In the case of evacuation know where the closest shelter is located. Remember to check if it allows pets or is equipped for special needs persons if necessary. Secure your home by removing ALL flower pots, planters, lawn furniture and BBQ grills from the exterior and the lanai. Remember masking tape on the windows DOES NOT protect them from breaking, it just makes a mess. Opening a window DOES NOT help in a hurricane keep your house secured with all doors and windows closed and garage door down. Gather important documents such as insurance policies, birth certificates, passports, financial papers, health records and secure them in a waterproof bag (zip lock) or container. If evacuating take these papers with you. Get cash and gas. Fill your vehicles with gas and get some cash. These two vital services typically do not work without electricity, and don t forget to charge your cell phones. If evacuating, take the chargers with you. Remember your medications and other health items. Prepare a water supply. Fill pre-sanitized sinks and tubs with clean water for bathing and flushing toilets. Have a bucket available. Make or buy ice and have coolers available for food storage in case of power failure. Turn your refrigerator/freezer to the maximum cold setting in anticipation of power outages. Get your e-copy: Send name & street address to CHL.GoPaperless@gmail.com

3 Celebrate our Advertisers We have been blessed with so many advertisers but I don t have room for more than 2 or 3 a month over and above the 8 permanent ads. All our advertisers are licensed and insured and many have been in business for a long time. Others are new businesses just getting started. They are all reputable and stand by their work. If you are in need of a service they provide give them a try.
