2 LBARA MEETING SCHEDULE MONTH BOARD REGULAR FEB NOTE: BOARD 3/19 APR MEETINGS WILL NOW 4/16 MAY TAKE PLACE ONE 5/21 SEPT HOUR PRIOR TO THE 9/17 OCT REGULAR MEETING 10/15 MARCH PROGRAM Dana Dyer, Capt. Retired, WO1M In 1988 My wife Lynn and I decided we would attempt to do our part to help international relations with the Soviet Union. Three years later our first Russian visit began. In August 1991 when Lynn and I with daughter Meredith and son Benjamin were invited by an Aeroflot Russian Airline Pilot, pilot to visit his family in Russia. Our visit ended on August 19, 1991 when a coup deposed Gorbachev. We departed the country during the aftermath of fighting in Moscow. Over the next couple of years I returned to Russia three more times. During one of these visits I taught an Aeroflot flight crew about windshear avoidance, while I was a part of the first Russian-American dental conference. It was during my second visit that I met Russian Cosmonaut Anatoly Artsebarsky, Commander of the Russian Space Station Mir. We eventually invited each others son to visit with us in our own countries. Anatoly is a licensed ham radio operator and I will share some very interesting experiences with operations from the space station with his ICOM Hand Held. Dana has a lot of both ham, airborne radio and ground experience to share plus his foreign 3rd world communications with less than English speaking aircraft controllers, some exciting. Hope to see you at the March LBARA meeting with Q&A's.
