Welcome: John Hansen welcomed the attendees and extended gratitude for their presence. John invited all to introduce themselves to group. Financial Report: Jeff McKnight reported the bank balances of: Beginning Balance (Through 9/19/2016): $4, Ending Balance (Through 10/17/2016): $4,155.95

2 There were no checks written and no deposits made during the last month. John Hansen explained that there were some upcoming expenses which include the Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance premium due this month as well as the Manufacturing Day lunches for the students that KAMMA agreed to donate to the event. IV. Old Business: a. Website Update: Dolly Moore displayed the KAMMA website ( on the large room monitor and specifically discussed the calendar of events and how members can utilize the features. Dolly pointed out how the Manufacturing Day event, OSHA Training and other items are located in the calendar. The member specific pages were viewed and discussed with John Hansen reminding the group of the importance to have your company page completed. John as well reminded the group that our Industrial Park is the largest concentration of manufacturing business outside of Maricopa County. b. Membership Update: Dolly Moore confirmed that there are 47 members total to date with 33 paid and 14 comp d members. Dolly described the different types of membership and displayed the information from the KAMMA website displayed on the large monitor. c. Industrial Training; OSHA 30/10, Medical First Responder: John Hansen welcomed Robert Freeman, Corporate Education Manager of MCC and Dan Lara who announced his departure from MCC in very near future. John described to the group the details of the first training session provided for the area companies and discussed the vision of continuing advanced training sessions that will provide more depth to the beginning class. John expressed the paramount need and the hope to work with MCC to be able to provide this type training for our manufacturing community existing as well as send the message to companies looking to relocate to our area that we have resources available to train staff for manufacturing needs. Robert Freeman agreed to talk more with John about MCC s participation in being a provider for these type needs. Mary Mendola noted that Arizona@Work could possibly pay up to 50% of the cost to train qualified candidates. Mary indicated that there would be paperwork to process but there is definitely some potential there for this needed resource. Bruce Forthun shared news that John Spadaccini, Manager of Career and Workforce Business Services at Northland Pioneer College will bring down some of his faculty to visit the Cascades facility in the near future and consider their needs relative to continued training for the staff there. Also noted at the meeting was the upcoming OSHA 10 Training to be offered October 25 th & 26 th by Arizona@Work. The cost of the training is essentially free with the only expense being $8 per participant for the certification card. John Hansen encouraged all to consider taking advantage of this great benefit being

3 V. New Business brought to our area. John let all know that every business is in the safety business and this training is a great resource for all companies. John indicated that if anyone was interested in the training to contact Alex Ball for more information. Mary Mendola distributed a flyer with information relative to the event. Amy West informed the group that WAVE / JTED is working to have Kingman High School students acquire the OSHA 10 training to better prepare them to enter the workforce locally. John Hansen speaking about the Medical First Responder training reminded the group about a fatality that occurred here in our Industrial Park some months back and that after the incident KAMMA worked with MCC to put together a class to train local company employees in Medical First Responder skills. The concept was to put a trained responder in our local companies to help bridge the gap in response time of the emergency service groups and hopefully make a difference in the event of an incident requiring medical assistance. The first training session was a great success and KAMMA would like to participate in putting together a second class to add more trained resources to our Industrial Park community. John indicated that things have not been moving forward in the absence of Brandon Warner at MCC and that he welcomes the opportunity to work with Robert Freeman to bring this to reality. Robert agreed to speak more with John about this critical need. a. Job Fair Mary Mendola: Mary Mendola explained to the attending group that Arizona@Work will be holding a Job Fair tomorrow, October 18 th from 10am to 3pm at the Mohave County Administration building downtown. Mary indicated that this event had more publicity that any prior event and encouraged all to consider participation in the event. Tables are available for employers to use at the facility and Mary suggested anyone interested to contact her to get set up. John Hansen extended many thanks to Mary for bringing information to the KAMMA members. b. Update: Manufacturing Day: Manufacturing Day Kingman is set for October 27 th, 2016 and the group has everything in place for a successful event. Gary Jeppson indicated that he was able to work out an agreement with a local Subway sandwich shop to provide box lunches for the Manufacturing Day event at $4 each. Gary also shared a copy of the event schedule relative to how the groups of students would tour the Industrial Park companies. All students would arrive at the Kingman Airport Authority administration building then be broken into smaller groups to be taken around the Industrial Park. Companies hosting tours include Brackett Aircraft, M-14P, Cascades Tissue, Laron, Inc., Lomanco West, American Woodmark, I-Corp Arizona, Inc. and the Kingman Airport Authority. Carol Gunnerson and Beth VanHoose from Kingman Unified School District informed the group that there was a very strong response from students showing interest in participating in the event. There will be 47 students; 22 from Lee Williams High School, 22 from Kingman High School and 3 from alternative learning programs. The

4 groups will be sorted by interest and there will be plenty of adult chaperones to escort the student groups. Dolly Moore exhibited the MFG DAY website ( on the large monitor to show the group how our Kingman event was listed on the global map of events. The attending group applauded Gary Jeppson, Carol Gunnerson, Beth VanHoose and Amy West for making this event a reality. John Hansen commented that this event moves to improve workforce development that will support industrial growth in our community. c. Partner Updates: KAA, JTED, MCC, Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce, Others: Tim Bannon, Assistant Director at The Laughlin Bullhead International Airport shared a handout to the group that explained the exciting news of the upcoming addition of American Airlines commercial flight service from Laughlin / Bullhead City to Phoenix. There will be a daily flight in and out of the airport with a launch date of February 16, The flyer shared important facts and figures relative to the new service. Tim expressed the excitement of the staff and how eager they are to get this service up and running. Tim indicated that the focus now turns to how to keep the commercial carrier and hopefully expand upon the opportunity. It was noted that the influence of KAMMA and KAMMA members who wrote letters of support for the cause over a year ago were helpful in making the change a reality. Bob Riley Director of Economic Development for The Kingman Airport Authority reported that Big Industrial will have an Open House at the old Southwire building November 3, Bob indicated that there has been an offer made on the old Telling Industries building but nothing confirmed on the deal. Another piece of news for the Airport is that Kingman Airline Services is working on securing a deal to be the Western Area Maintenance provider for Spirit Airlines. Amy West Superintendent for WAVE / JTED reported that their office of (3) is down to (2) people and they are working on compliance and school start up recently. Amy noted that WAVE / JTED are working to pay tuition and fees for many programs for students. John Hansen reminded all that the WAVE / JTED program is funded by tax dollars and that KAMMA has been vigilant in supporting the program at the State level. John reminded all that the State was looking cut funding last year and many organizations including KAMMA wrote letters that positively affected the decision to keep funding in place for the WAVE / JTED program. Robert Freeman, Corporate Education Manager of MCC addressed the group indicating his interest in his new position within Mohave Community College and expressed his desire to work with our group in the future. Robert was formerly a recruitment manager at the MCC Bullhead campus before moving to Kingman. Robert served in the United States Marines for 25 years prior to his recent endeavors. In other MCC news, Dan Lara shared that he would be moving soon to Oregon to work for another college there. Lynne Petersen, Chair of the Executive Committee for the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce introduced Gregg Martin who is the new CEO for the Chamber. Gregg

5 addressed the group indicating that the Chamber is working through some staff changes presently and that he is looking forward to working in a manner that makes the Chamber a better partner for businesses. Gregg expressed his desire for the Chamber to be an advocate for small business and help develop the workforce. John Hansen noted that a Chamber of Commerce that works can be the best partner for businesses. John encouraged all to support the growth of our local Chamber and realize the potential of the partnership. d. Manufacturing Internship Coordination: The Internship Coordination Committee consisting of John Hansen, Chair, Dolly Moore, Scott Brackett and Mary Mendola met September 29, 2016 at 3:00 pm for a kickoff meeting. In that meeting there were apparent problems identified and discussed as well as discussion about approaches to solutions. The group is working diligently to explore all details and requirements for College and University Internship for Credit programs as well as finding local partners to assist in resources to enable the internship process. Dolly and John are working to get a web page created on the KAMMA website that would enable a bulletin board devoted to Internship. The next meeting will be held November 3, 2016, 3:00pm at Brackett Aero Filters Office and the group will bring an update to the November 21, 2016 KAMMA monthly meeting. VI.
