2 MARY BRAINERD Mary Brainerd is president and chief executive officer for HealthPartners, a family of nonprofit Minnesota health care organizations headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ms. Brainerd holds a master s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas, and a bachelor-of-arts degree from the University of Minnesota. She grew up in St. Paul and has been actively involved in the Twin Cities community for several years. Mary is one of the founding CEOs of the Itasca Project, a group of 40 government, civic and business leaders addressing the issues that impact long-term economic growth, including jobs, education, transportation, and a economic disparities. She also serves on the boards of Minnesota Life/Securian, St. Paul Foundation, Capital City Partnership, Hamline University, and the Minneapolis Federal Reserve.

3 CHARLES M. DENNY, JR. Served as President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of ADC Telecommunications, Inc. from ADC Telecommunications is a manufacturer of communication equipment sold to telephone companies and large private networks. During Denny s tenure he revived and transformed a bankrupt, six million dollar electrical component company to what is today a billion dollar telecommunications company operating worldwide. 4 PETER GILBERTSON Peter A. Gilbertson is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Anacostia & Pacific Company, Inc. Anacostia is transportation development, management services and consulting firm. It has formed, and its shareholders control, five operating freight railroads operating in six states. He is also Chairman of Anacostia Rail Holdings and the Chicago South Shore & South Bend, Louisville & Indiana, Northern Lines and Pacific Harbor Line railroads. He was elected Chairman of Regional Railroads of America in 1995, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association between 1998 and In September 1999, he was appointed as Chairman of the Railroad Shipper Transportation Advisory Council by Linda J. Morgan, Chair of the U. S. Surface Transportation Board. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of American Railroads and is Chair of the Minnesota Railroads Association. He is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Hill Reference Library (St. Paul), a leading, non-profit, independent library serving entrepreneurs and businesses nationwide. He is a graduate of the University of Denver (BA) and University of Minnesota (JD).

5 ROBERT T. SHERMAN, JR. Bob Sherman is dean of the School of Business and Technology at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. Prior to joining St. Scholastica, he served as CEO of Character Education Partnership in Washington, DC and was a member of CEP s board of directors. Mr. Sherman serves on the board of trustees of the Association of Recovery Schools, an organization dedicated to creating and sustaining high school and college level addiction recovery school programs. Before joining CEP in 2004, he was founder and president of RTS Solutions LLC based in Minnetonka, MN. From , RTSS advised international companies on development and acquisition of energy projects worldwide. During his tenure at CEP, Mr. Sherman presided over an expansion of CEP s funding sources, programs, products and services while building accountability among staff and board members. He energized new support for character education by enlisting the business sector while creating new roles for longtime CEP allies. Mr. Sherman also led the development of new revenue sources for CEP, including training educators to provide effective character education in K-12 schools. He recruited several national leaders to the board of directors and played a major role in attracting new foundation grants for CEP s National Schools of Character program. Mr. Sherman received his undergraduate degree with honors in political science from Southern Methodist University in 1974 where he was a member of the Southwest Conference champion swimming team. He received his law degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1977, and was a member of the editorial staff of the Texas International Law Journal. With 27 years of experience in the energy and construction industries, Mr. Sherman has worked on major transactions in 16 countries and has been CEO and a member of the board of directors of a NASDAQ-traded energy company, Cogeneration Corporation of America. He served as a founding officer, senior vice president and general counsel of a major independent power generation company (CRSS Capital, Inc.) and chief development officer in Asia for Cogen Technologies of Houston, Texas. As chairman, Mr. Sherman led the National Independent Energy Producers in Washington, DC (now called the Electric Power Supply Association), the largest independent electric power lobbying organization in the U. S., and developed legislative and regulatory initiatives at the federal and state levels. Mr. Sherman practiced law in Texas for fourteen years and advised on a wide array of business and energy matters. Mr. Sherman has served as president of the board of trustees of the Hopkins Education Foundation in Minnesota and as an adjunct professor in the College of Business at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, where he has taught courses in ethics and leadership. He has been a visiting adjunct professor at New York College in Athens, Greece, at Tamkang University in Taiwan and lectured at Emory University. He is a frequent speaker and writer on topics related to business ethics and character education. Mr. Sherman is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Duluth and has served as a scoutmaster and adult leader in the Boy Scouts of America since 1990.

6 KENNETH GOODPASTER Kenneth Goodpaster earned his A.B. in mathematics from the University of Notre Dame and his A.M. and Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Michigan. His research has spanned a wide range of topics, from conceptual studies of ethical reasoning to empirical studies of the social implications of management decision making. This work led to three books: Perspectives on Morality (1976), Ethics and Problems of the 21st Century (1979), and Regulation, Values and the Public Interest (1980). He has published articles in a wide variety of professional journals, including the Journal of Philosophy, Ethics, Environmental Ethics, the Journal of Business Ethics, Thought, Business Ethics Quarterly, and the Harvard Business Review. Goodpaster taught graduate and undergraduate philosophy at the University of Notre Dame throughout the 1970s before joining the Harvard Business School faculty in At Harvard, he taught both MBA candidates and executives and developed the second-year elective course, Ethical Aspects of Corporate Policy, as well as the firstyear required module, Managerial Decision Making and Ethical Values (1989). He also authored two textbooks, Ethics in Management (1984) and Policies and Persons: A Casebook in Business Ethics (First Edition 1985, Second Edition 1991, Third Edition 1998). The new Fourth Edition, entitled Business Ethics: Policies and Persons, along with the Instructor s Manual on CD Rom, is available from McGraw-Hill (2006). In the fall of 1989, Goodpaster accepted the David and Barbara Koch Endowed Chair in Business Ethics at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, continuing as Visiting Professor at Harvard through June of At St. Thomas, he teaches in undergraduate, MBA and executive educational programs including a Great Books Seminar for graduate students in business. His newest book is Conscience and Corporate Culture (Wiley-Blackwell Publishers, 2007). Goodpaster sits on the editorial boards of numerous journals in the field of business ethics, and has been active with the Caux Round Table, the Minneapolis-based Center for Ethical Business Cultures, the International Society for Business, Economics, and Ethics (ISBEE) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
