4 Thomas J. McInerney is President and Chief Executive Officer of The Leadership in the Nation s Interest Award recognizes a corporate executive who leads his or her company with integrity and purpose, and champions policies for the common good. CED is pleased to present this Award to Thomas J. McInerney President and Chief Executive Officer Before joining Genworth in January 2013, Tom was a Senior Advisor at the Boston Consulting Group, providing consulting and advisory services to leading insurance and financial services companies in the United States and Canada. Tom s extensive career in the insurance industry includes thirty years at ING Groep NV and Aetna Inc. He began his career as an insurance underwriter at Aetna Casualty and Surety in June While at Aetna, he served in many leadership positions, including Senior Vice President for Sales and National Accounts for Aetna U.S. Healthcare, and Vice President of Strategy for Aetna Inc. In 2000, when ING Groep acquired Aetna Financial Services, Tom was serving as its President. At ING Groep, Tom was a member of the Management Board for Insurance and was Chief Operating Officer for ING s insurance and investment management businesses worldwide. He also was a member of the Executive Board and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ING Americas, where he led ING s pension, retirement services, insurance, and investment management businesses in the United States, Canada, and seven countries in Latin America. As Chief Executive Officer of ING U.S. Financial Services, Tom was responsible for ING s insurance, retirement services, and mutual funds business in the United States for nearly five years. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of ING U.S. Worksite Financial Services, which focused on ING s employer-sponsored services. He has been active with the American Council of Life Insurers and the Financial Services Roundtable, having served on each association s board and Chief Executive Officer Committee. Tom received a B.A. in Economics from Colgate University and a M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
