She was raised serving her community and as a Principal she is instilling the importance of community service in her students. She is also trying to increase enrollment in Leona Valley Elementary through clubs, such as Ballroom Dancing and joining Middle School Sport with Colby Middle School. The school is collecting canned food for Sertoma s Holiday Baskets that are donated to needy. families. RED CAT System Update Principal Diane Parkins of HELUS was our guest at breakfast. She shared with us how well the Red Cat portable sound systems are working in the school. The children experience a noteable difference when in other classrooms without the Red Cat system. HELUS would appreciate the donation of at least one more system. 6 LVIA/LEONA VALLEY / TOWN COUNCIL Denise Ibarra won USO Murder Mystery Tickets at the Silent Auction at Fireman s Appreciation Day Creekside Café Server at the Creekside Café Tony, joined the Navy. He will be leaving in a week. God Bless Tony come visit when you are in town. There will be a Halloween haunted house. New Officers have been elected. New President. All football book winners will be posted on the Portable sign in front of Pinkers will list all football book winners Red, White & Blue Thrift Store was robbed just after picking up the donations from the Sertoma swamp meet. The funds from the register were taken.the thrift store supports local Veterans and has run in the red for so long. They were finally in the black. LVIA LVIA will be hosting a Halloween Carnival, Christmas Tour, Corvette Christmas Party. Three new officers Mike Young, David Lewis, Christina Bilmeier, Daphne Gerardi, Peggy Fuller and Glenda Gonzales. Town Council Cal Waters is close to settlement with the rate payors. The amount is unknown. Town council candidates: Bill Kemp, Terry Kenney, Alice Benoit, Marcy Waton. All candidates support slow growth preserving our lifestyle. Thanks for your support. Sertoma Christmas Social will be December 7, 2013 at 5 p.m. at Cathy Toso s house. Canned food collection with the Fire Department will take place Dec. 7 and 8 th at Hemme s Hay & Feed from 10a.m.-3 p.m. Last year we collected $ that was used in Walmart gift cards. December 8 at the Green Valley Charitable Hall will be hosting Breakfast with Santa. Bring the kids for pictures with Santa and breakfast. Lake Hughes Lake Hughes Community Center needs our help! The Forestry Dept. has advised LHCC of concerns of flooding. K- rails are needed to divert water flow. Dead trees need to be removed. However, the bids 022they have received are quite high. Any licensed contractor able to help please contact Linda Joynt. There will be a meeting with attorneys looking to represent victims of the Powerhouse Fire at the Lakes Community Center. LHCC has until Nov.1, 2013 to file a claim, however, no information in being released about the Powerhouse Fire. Town council is looking for candidates. 4H Sertoman, Charlene Moore has been nominated to the State Advisory Committee for Animal Science. Bill Moore has a booth at the AV Winery selling his preserves. Green Valley Has donated $ to Lake Hughes Powerhouse Fire restoration for the removal of dead trees. Leona Valley Sertoma has also donated $ toward the removal of the trees. Green Valley Bible Page Chapel 7 had a HISTORICAL SOCIETY The Leona Valley Schoolhouse received status having historical significance and is now approved as a historical point of interest in California. The schoolhouse is 99% completed. Leona Valley Elementary will be taking a field trip to the one room schoolhouse in the Spring. Proceeds from the Gala Under The Stars will benefit the restoration of the one room schoolhouse. John Seymour is very proud of the work that has been accomplished on the school house especially since it sat for 26 years untouched by the Historical Society. One window has been installed. Sponsors are being sought for Ten windows at a cost of $ each. So far 5 sponsors have come forward. Rich Thomas Corvette Club donated the bell for the bell tower of the school house. John is seeking estimates for fire sprinklers.

10 The Leona Valley SERTOMA Club exists for the purpose of serving others. We bond together in fellowship to provide community services in the form of time, talent, and leadership. Our fundraising efforts are directed toward accelerating progress in health, education, freedom and democracy, and improving the quality of life in our local communities. Through our programs and events we help people to help themselves and encourage personal improvement. for needy families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays schools program in local to the Painted Turtle Camp in Lake Hughes to aid hearing impaired children at Westwind Elementary School and Hughes-Elizabeth Lake Unified School District (HELUS) for Leona Valley Elementary School Upgrades to the Leona Valley, Green Valley, and Lake Hughes Schools. two projectors and 1 camera were donated in the name of Leo Rohaley Jr. March-St Patrick s Day Dinner upgrades for the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center for testing of all newborns and community bulletin board for Leona Valley, $ annual donation, and the Leona Valley donation to keep the paper in business. Lake Hughes Community Center received funds for tree removal. A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw for high school students as well as junior college students transferring to a four year college since 1999 $40, has been given out in scholarships.
