3 Profiles Stephen Pincock Regional Executive Editor for Custom Publishing and Nature Index Nature Publishing Group Stephen joined Nature Publishing Group (NPG) in 2014 and is Executive Editor of the company s custom publishing team in the Asia Pacific region. He works closely with universities and research institutions around the region to produce custom science communication solutions to meet their needs. Stephen has been a science communicator for more than 20 years, working with newspapers, magazines, scientific journals and organisations in the USA, Europe and Asia. He leads NPG s editorial team working with institutions in the Asia Pacific region to communicate their high quality science to a global audience. SELECTED PUBLICATIONS Pincock, Stephen. 4 Timothy Hornyak Timothy Hornyak is a freelance science and technology journalist based in Tokyo. Born in Montreal and educated at McGill University and Carleton University, Hornyak moved to Japan in 1999 and worked for media organizations including Kyodo News NHK News and coauthored guidebooks to Japan and Tokyo for Lonely Planet. He is also the author of Loving the Machine: The Art and Science of Japanese Robots. He has worked as Tokyo correspondent for IDG News, a Boston-based IT newswire supplying content to websites such as Computerworld, Macworld and Networkworld, and has contributed to media such as Scientific American, National Geographic News and MIT Technology Review. Tomoko Otake Tomoko Otake is a staff writer and deputy manager of the domestic news section of the Japan Times. Originally from Japan s ancient capital of Nara, she graduated from the University of Montana with an M.A. in journalism. She writes on a variety of topics for The Japan Times, including health and work-life-balance issues.

5 Kaoru Natori Kaoru Natori joined the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST) in 2007 after working 5 years at the press office of the US embassy in Tokyo. Prior to that, she spent two years in the USA attaining her master's degree in journalism. As the head of the OIST Media Section, she is primarily in charge of OIST Web stories, media relations, and publications including OIST brochures. As JACST s vice president in charge of international outreach, she organized the OIST-JACST international science communication workshop in March 2015 and the two-day summer course in August Adam Phillips

6 Adam is an ex-researcher with a PhD in neuroscience from Northwestern University in the United States. He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at RIKEN BSI and Tamagawa University BSI. He has also worked as a professional manuscript editor and joined RIKEN's Global Communications team in 2014 as a science writer and communications officer.
