8 Place value The place value of a number is the value of the place or position of a digit in the given number. The place value of a number increases ten times from right to left. While writing place value of a digit in a given number, count the number of digits following it and replace them with zeros. Place value of 0 is always 0. The place value of a digit changes according to the place it occupies in the number. 12 Number Facts Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4,. are called counting numbers or natural numbers. If 0 (zero) is included in the group of natural numbers, it becomes a group of whole numbers. Whole numbers are 0,1,2,3,4. Comparison of numbers The number with more digits is always greater Family means no one gets left behind or To compare numbers with different number of digits, forgotten. First compare the thousands digits. If the thousands digits are same, compare the hundreds digits If the thousands and hundreds digits are same, compare the tens digits. If the thousands, hundreds and tens digits are same, compare the ones digits = (Open side is towards the bigger number) (Closed side is facing the smaller number) XVII. 14 Even and odd numbers Even numbers are all those numbers that can be put into pairs. All even numbers have 0, 2,4,6,8, in the ones place. Eg: 5824,3936, 2478, 8530, 6752 etc. Odd numbers are all those numbers that cannot be put into pairs. Odd numbers have the digits 1,3,5,7 and 9 in their ones place.
