2 We don t need a complete set of drawings to show our proposed addition to the CLIENT. What is really great about BIM technology is when the CLIENT wants to make changes (and there will always be changes) they will be automatically updated throughout our drawing set. Let s do a little work on the ENTRY and the roofing. ZOOM into the ENTRY area and SELECT COLUMN. CHANGE values to those shown above. at each ENDPOINT of the wall. Go to the corner shown and when you see the CHECKMARK type in X and then and ENTER to place a COLUMN in the MIDDLE and Move the COLUMNS into POSITION by going to the ARROW in the TOOLBOX and then selecting move. Results shown BELOW

3 Page 2 The idea is to place a SHED ROOF on the CRAFT ROOM to make it appear more spacious. Perhaps add small windows high up to bring in more natural light. Select ROOF from the TOOLBOX. Select PANEL. CHANGE HEIGHT TO 7 FEET AND THE RISE TO 4-5 FEET. Pick the two points shown for PIVOT line and select INSIDE for DIRECTIO N and then make a box to cover craft room.

4 Page 3 SELECT ARROW in the TOOLBOX and SELECT WALLS of the CRAFT ROOM (can do 1 at a time if it is easier). Change the HEIGHT of the WALLS to 30 feet and then RIGHT MOUSE CLICK and select TRIM to ROOF results shown. No offset or 0 offset. We are going to place a GABLE roof on the GARAGE. Select settings shown on INFO box change HEIGHT to feet and then change PITCH to 4-5.

5 Page - 4 The idea of the roof was that you could walk on an even surface from the gable to the shed. You can see that the height of the wall would not work in construction so there are some things we need to work out on the roof. To show to the CLIENT we will leave it as it is. The reasons CONTRACTORS love BIM is you can clearly see if something is going to work out not. The can run INTERFERENCE DETECTION software and find the errors on the MODEL and save a tremendous amount of money on the project. Change the HEIGHT of the walls TO 30 FEET and RIGHT MOUSE CLICK CONNECT and TRIM TO ROOF.

6 Page 5 There are NEW tools for RENOVATIONS in ArchiCAD 15. In filter options we could select existing and change the way it is displayed. More about this when we do construction documents. Let s put a SLAB in the existing area to help CLIENT with visualization. Holding down the SPACE BAR (will see the MAGIC WAND) select the WALL SHOWN.

7 Page 6 The EXISTING residence has a GABLE roof. Using the MAGIC WAND technique select GABLE as shown change height to 9-5 and pitch to 4-5 with no offset. Holding down the SPACE BAR select a wall of the EXISTING to create a HIP ROOF as shown. We are going to put a FLAT roof on our new proposed ENTRY.

8 Page 7 Select panel under the roof tool. Make sure that the rise is 4-5. Height is 7. Extend and trim walls to roof to clean up this area. The resulting roof of new addition blends together at the same pitch

9 Page - 8 We could print out the FLOOR PLAN and perhaps add an ELEVATION for the CLIENT to look at. Please refer to How to print just one sheet tutorial and video. On how to make your own title block and create a sheet similar to the one shown. We could also create a rendering or a walk-through of the project to help the customer visualize. Large format printers could do both the sheet above and the rendering below on photo-glossy paper.

10 Page 9 The interior rendering on the previous page was done using CAMERA from the TOOLBOX and the camera shown was the view chosen. When you make a camera it shows up in the navigator You just select one of the cameras and see if the view is what you were looking for and then check it out by going to DOCUMENT CREATIVE IMAGING and then PHOTORENDER PROJECTION. Once the CLIENT decides what on the remodel option CONSTRUCTION drawings are made to take to the city to get a permit to do the job. If you are an architect or a designer it is expected that you would do the work required to get a permit to build. On a smaller project like this one you may even have to BID it out to give the CLIENT exactly what the addition will cost. Luckily, BIM has everything you need in one parametric model from construction drawings to rendering. Your job now is to come up with a better option for our CLIENT using the same square feet and be able to tell us why your design is better. Lesson is complete.
