1 SATURDAY 8-12 AM Class Number SAM 1 Asian Oil Lamps Greer Peters , Maximum Number of Students: 12 Minimum Number of Students: 4 Price of Class: $37 -you bring a gourd, $45 I bring you a gourd Class Description: You will have fun with this project! We will use a small canteen gourd, and you will decorate both sides of the standing gourd, you will be able to adapt these patterns to other types of gourds. You have your choice of two patterns. Students will learn how to best get a flat surface on the standing canteen gourd, including how to make a false bottom when necessary, wood burn and shade patterns, and use the pattern for correct size hole to hold the oil lamp insert. Students will paint with Lumiere metallic, learning how to shade as you go. The oil lamp will be sealed and lamp inserted. You have light, and a very pretty lamp to use during the holidays or next summer and they are great gifts! Student MUST bring: Your favorite brushes (flat #4 and #8 and liner, 2/0) or close, or you can use the class brushes, but yours will be better! You also need a wood burner, spade tip, small ball shader, ball point pen and fine Sharpie pen. See above if you bring a gourd you can save $8.00. I will you size and preparations directions. Student SHOULD bring: A power strip and extension cord, instructor has 2 one per table. If you have Transparent Acrylics or Lumiere acrylics bring them, and a heat gun. Teacher will furnish: Tutorial with patterns, prepared gourd, oil lamp insert, Transparent and Lumiere acrylics, class brushes, water containers, transfer paper, Press n Seal, sharpie pens, clear acrylic sealing spray, 2 - heat guns, water buckets, water pans, paper towels and a sense of humor!

2 Class Number SAM2 Fantasy Dragonfly Betsey Sloan or Maximum Number of Students: 12 Minimum Number of Students: 5 Price of Class: $35 Class Description: Students will first transfer the dragonfly pattern and then woodburn the design including a circle area around the design. They will then use various alcohol stains to color the gourd outside of the circle area. Then students will begin making the body of the design using Apoxi Sculpt, a two part compound. They will learn how to inset their dichroic glass and then remove it while finishing the design. Using various acrylic and mica paints, they will finish the design. A softened philodendron sheath will be sewn to the gourd rim, and the dichroic glass will be glued into position. Students MUST bring: woodburner and favorite tip, mask, carver (Dremel, etc.) with small ball bit, prepared gourd approximately 6-7 inches in diameter (for instance a kettle gourd, medium sized) Students SHOULD bring: willingness to have fun. Teacher will furnish: detailed tutorial, Apoxi Sculpt, stains and paint, dichroic glass in assorted colors, gourd spray or wax finish, softened philodendron sheath, waxed linen.

3 Class Number SAM3 Bead Inlay with Indian Maiden Ellen Tatum Maximum Number of Students 12 Minimum Number of Students 2 Price of Class: $35.00 Class Description: Students will learn how to cut the gourd in order to inlay the strands of beads. Apply the Indian Warrior and Maiden pattern to size of gourd then wood burn and dye. Student MUST bring: Dremel Drill or your favorite drill - Dust mask, cutting wheel, inverted cone bit, sanding wheel and woodburner with any tips/pens you may have. Teacher will furnish: Instructions and typed tutorial, inks, leather dyes, all paint brushes, water containers, patterns, and paper towels. Extra drill bits will be provided for class use if needed along with sanding files. Glue for beads. Beads will be for sale at Teachers cost about $3.00.

We will use a tall body or martin gourd; you will be able to adapt these patterns to other types of gourds. Students will learn how to best get a flat surface on the standing gourd, including how to make a false bottom when necessary, wood burn and shade patterns, and students will paint with Lumiere metallic, learning how to shade as you go. We will add Angelina Fibers for an extra sparkle! This is so striking you will want to make more!! Student MUST bring: your favorite brushes (flat #4 and #8 and liner, 2/0) or close, or you can use the class brushes, but yours will be better! You also need a wood burner, spade tip, small ball shader, ball point pen, fine Sharpie pen, carving tool (like a Dermal) to stipple the background. See above if you bring a gourd you can save $8.00. 5 Class Number SPM2 Curves Everywhere Betsey Sloan or Maximum number of students: 12 Minimum number of students: 5 Price of Class: $45 Class Description: Students will first drill holes in their gourd and then they will use a variety of alcohol inks to stain their gourds. A finish will be applied, either spray or wax. Using waxed linen, they will begin an open coiling around the rim. After five or so rows, the deer antler will be laid in, followed by two more coils. Then students can opt to curve their coil out of the regular pattern. The end results will be a rim that is not standard but one that will hold the antler secure and will curve out of the coiling to create a one of a kind rim. Students MUST bring: cleaned opened gourd approximate opening 3 inches, diameter, 7-8 Students SHOULD bring: desire to have fun and willingness to repeat a weaving stitch over and over! Teacher will bring: Detailed tutorial, seagrass, alcohol inks and materials, deer antler (mule), waxed linen, needles, finish for gourd.

6 Class Number SPM3 Faux Leather Tooled Gourdaments Troy Tatum Maximum Number of Students- 12 Minimum Number of Students -3 Price of Class $ Class Description: Student will be given step by step instruction and guided through the process of making a faux leather tooled gourdament. Students will be furnished five different patterns to choose from. Student MUST bring: Adjustable temperature wood burner with skew and medium ball tip Student SHOULD bring: Mask or respirator if desired Teacher will furnish egg gourd, patterns, sandpaper, transfer paper, ball point pen, hanger, bead cap, gourd drill, make-up sponge, colorants, and finish.

7 SUNDAY 9:30-4:00 Class Number SUN1 Ocean Sun, Rising Turtle Reggie Eakin Skill Level Intermediate to advanced Maximum Number of Students_10 Minimum Number of Students_2 Price of Class $40.00 Class Description: Teach relief carving a figure in combination with a stippled background. The student will learn how to trace a design, carve the outline, remove the gourd shell, stipple the surface, and drill a pattern in the prepared surface to simulate air bubbles. The Teacher will furnish: Tutorials, patterns, transfer paper, pencil, pen, memory ink, ink applicators, scissors, tape, and sanding tools. The instructor will loan Burrs: structures cutter, wheel top cutter, inverted cone, and ball cutters. The Student should bring: Dremel or similar carving tool w/flexible extension, 1/8 and 3/32 collets or adjustable chuck, sanding drum, dust-mask, and stable tool stand. Bring a 6 to 7 inch diameter and 6 to 8 inch tall, 3/8 thick, pear-shaped or round gourd. Clean the gourd; cut a small hole (3 inch) at the top; and clean the gourd interior. Remove all of the white membrane (do not paint the inside). The instructor will have prepared gourds for sale $8.00 each. Battery operated tools do not have enough power to use for carving.

8 Sunday 9:00-12:30 Class Number SUN2 Filigree Leaf Gourd Ellen Tatum Maximum Number of Students12 Minimum Number of Students 2 Price of Class $35.00 Class Description: Students will learn how to combine filigree techniques with leaf patterns and use memories inks to blend colors of leaves. Students will probably not finish the gourds but will finish the techniques. Student MUST bring: Cleaned Gourd outside and inside cleaned and painted a light color, mask to keep out dust, dremel drill (or your favorite drill) with the following bits inverted cone drill bit, sanding bits, cutting drill bit (small) Teacher will furnish: Patterns, inks, leather dyes, tutorials, acrylic paints and extra drill bits, and if needed gourds. Please let me know if you need a gourd. Metal files for smoothing wood, all cleaning supplies, water containers, electric hook ups etc.

First we will prep the gourd, lay out and woodburn the nautilus and wrap around design. Then we will stain and finish the gourd. We will add a simple rim treatment with rope and shells. This class is also good for those of you need to get better acquainted with your woodburner! Students MUST bring: Woodburner with skew, small and medium ball tips, gloves, red ink pen, pencil, eraser and scissors. Teacher will furnish: Pattern, written instructions, rim materials and prepped gourd.
