1 Generations Test Drive Multi Media Project A Creative and Inspirational project that incorporates different decoration techniques including a print transfer, embroidery applique, monogramming, and rhinestones.

3 KIT CONTENTS Printed Inkjet Transfer Paper This paper has a floral embellishment print - the blank excess material has been already cut away so there isn t any white background. The cut was done with the Cameo Cutter so that the white excess material would not transfer with the design. Two Glitter Rectangle Pieces These pieces of glitter will be used in the applique process using a rip away and heat technique. This will be used in the embroidery step.

4 KIT CONTENTS One Pre-Cut Twill Shape This piece of twill was cut using the Cameo Cutter. It cut the exact contour of the embroidery applique shape we will be stitching out. With the shape already pre-cut, it eliminates errors in manual hand cutting. Loose Rhinestones & Rhinestone Template The rhinestone template was cut using the Cameo Cutter. This allows us to pour the loose rhinestones over the template to follow the correct pattern. Remember your tweezers to help with exact placement!

5 KIT CONTENTS Rhinestone Transfer Tape This is a special material that transfers the rhinestones from the template to the tape. The tape allows us to place & secure the rhinestones onto a garment with heat. You will need to cut this tape in half 2 pieces to accomodate each rhinestone template.

7 STEP ONE HEAT TRANSFER APPLICATION

8 PREPARE TO TRANSFER For this step, you will need the material to be decorated, printed transfer, and iron. Optional items fabric marker/ pin and tape measure. For this project, I am creating a new pillow case. I have cut my fabric accordingly and marked the center point of the material with a straight pin.

9 MATERIAL SET UP What you need Pre-heat iron to highest setting NO STEAM. Make sure there is no water in your iron or the steam setting is on. Use a hard surface to iron on NOT AN IRONING BOARD. Place a pillowcase or T- shirt between your hard surface and your material.

10 Find the center of the material and create a reference point. Find the center of the grid on the back of the transfer. Place the transfer with image facing down onto good side of the material & line up center reference points.

11 PRESS TRANSFER Step press with the iron. Apply firm pressure slowly along each side of the image. Hold each press for 45 seconds until the entire image has been pressed.

12 PEEL TRANSFER Peel the transfer immediately after pressing. For softest hand, stretch transfer immediately after peeling. Leave finished item for at least 24 hours before wash. Wash inside out in cold water. Dry at normal heat settings. Do no use bleach, fabric softener, or hard detergents. Do not iron DIRECTLY over transfer.

13 STEP TWO EMBROIDERY, APPLIQUE, AND MONOGRAMMING

14 MATERIAL SET UP What you need Spray Adhesive (not included) Glitter Pieces Pre-Cut Twill Stabilizer (not included) You will also need your iron (highest setting, no steam) after the embroidery is finished.

15 SETUP FOR HOOPING Print your worksheet onto clear transfer paper. You will need to print with the image showing so that you have perfect alignment. Place worksheet over material and line up the garment (on top of transfer) with the center point of the embroidery.

16 HOOPING Mark the origin point of the embroidery onto your garment. Hoop carefully and straight!

17 ALIGNMENT Load the design into the machine and place the hoop onto the machine. Ensure that the needle lines up with the origin point. With the first part of the embroidery, we will be embroidering the glitter applique portion. There will be stops (color changes) involved.

18 GLITTER APPLIQUE After the placement stitch, peel the glitter sheet away from the clear plastic carrier and spray the dull side lightly with your spray adhesive. Place the glitter sheets over the placement stitches and ensure that all the stitches are being covered.

20 TWILL APPLIQUE The second part of the embroidery is the pre-cut flower. This part also includes stops (color changes) for the steps. After the placement stitch, peel the flower away from the carrier backing & excess material place directly on the edges of the placement stitch. The back of this material is already tacky, so spray adhesive is not necessary.

21 TWILL APPLIQUE The tack down stitch will secure the fabric and finally finish with the cover stitch.

22 MONOGRAM Finally, the monogram will stitch.

23 GLITTER APPLIQUE CLEANUP Remove the hoop from the machine. Tear away the outside glitter from the satin stitching. Do not remove the inside glitter. In order to secure this, we will need to heat the glitter.

24 GLITTER APPLIQUE HEAT Remove the hoop and place wax paper over the material this will protect the heat transfer. Press the glitter firmly with your iron. Press back and forth at highest setting for 3 minutes. Remove the wax paper and let cool.

25 STEP THREE RHINESTONE APPLICATION

26 MATERIAL SET UP What you need Rhinestone Templates Transfer Tape Smooth Surface (not included) Wax Paper (not included) You will also need your iron (highest setting, no steam) after the embroidery is finished.

27 RHINESTONE TEMPLATE Peel one rhinestone template from the backing material and stick onto surface (you will want a surface where you can easily remove the sticky template I like using an old 8x10 glass frame).

28 RHINESTONE TEMPLATE Pour and brush the rhinestones into the cutout template. I advise using tweezers for perfect placement. Once all the rhinestones are in place, brush away the excess rhinestones away from the completed pattern.

29 RHINESTONE TEMPLATE Cut the transfer tape in half (make sure you have enough to cover each template). Peel the white portion away and place the sticky side down onto the rhinestones. When placing the sticky tape on top of the rhinestones, be careful, as those little rhinestones like to move I try to bow the tape, start on one side and slowly move & lay the tape towards the opposite side. After the tape is down, apply pressure onto the stones to ensure that the tape will hold the stones when you lift the tape.

30 RHINESTONE TEMPLATE After the tape is down, apply pressure onto the stones to ensure that the tape will hold the stones when you lift the tape. Lift the tape slowly and carefully. Store the sticky flock (template) on the template paper.

31 RHINESTONE DESIGN PLACEMENT Lay the template onto your material. Repeat these steps for the other template. If you have extra stones, you can place them in various areas (tweezers help) for extra embellishing.

32 RHINESTONE APPLICATION After the stones are in place, make sure to apply new wax paper over the heat transfer template and the rhinestones. Apply heat by lowering the iron straight down on the transfer area and push hard for seconds. DO NOT move the iron around it may displace the rhinestones. Remove the iron and allow cooling for 5-10 seconds. Remove the transfer tape when it is still warm to the touch. Test the stones by picking at them. Do not try to pick too much. Turn the material over and press again for seconds. Make sure you are using a cushion surface to iron on so that the rhinestones do not scratch.
