4 Supplies needed: 1 yard micro velvet, velveteen, or similar fabric 16" x 22" piece of muslin (fat quarter will work) 2 yards ½" satin ribbon, either matching or contrasting to the velvet fabric o If using a contrasting ribbon, consider your thread colors before choosing the ribbon color. Water-soluble topping Heavy weight tear-away stabilizer Temporary adhesive spray Design collection #12484 Chic Décor Pillows Printer Optional: ¼" double-sided basting tape Chic Décor Pillows Instructions 1. Print your templates. a. If creating pillow 1, print the pillow 1 piecing template and cutting templates #1-11. b. If creating pillow 2, print the pillow 2 piecing template and cutting templates # Cut the velvet for embroidery. a. Cut 12-6" x 10" pieces. (If creating pillow 1, you will have one extra rectangle. If creating pillow 2, you will have two extra rectangles.) i. We recommend cutting 3-6" x width of fabric strips, then cutting each of these strips into 4 10" x 6" rectangles. b. From remaining fabric, cut the pillow back 12" x 18". i. The remaining fabric can be used to allow for embroidery or cutting mistakes. If you make no mistakes, you ll have enough left for the back of a second pillow. 3. Embroider your pieces. a. Hoop two layers of heavy weight tear-away stabilizer. b. Spray the hooped stabilizer with temporary adhesive spray. c. Center one rectangle of velvet over the stabilizer. d. Very lightly spray a piece of water-soluble topping with temporary adhesive spray and place over the top of your velvet. e. Embroider your design. f. When finished embroidering, tear away as much of the water-soluble topping as possible. i. Remove the excess by placing a slightly damp paper towel over the velvet and topping. Using a warm iron, lightly press the paper towel. As it dries, the remaining water-soluble stabilizer will stick to it. Use a warm iron only, and do not apply pressure to the velvet. g. Remove the excess tear-away stabilizer. h. If pressing is needed, press with a warm iron only from the back, placing the velvet face down into a thick terry towel. i. Repeat for each design needed for your pillow (#1-11 for Pillow 1 or #12-21 for Pillow 2) 4. Cut your embroidered pieces to the correct shape using the printed templates. a. Lay the appropriate template over your embroidered design. Use the printed centerpoint of the design to align the template. b. Using a rotary cutter, cut the velvet to the shape of the paper template. It is a violation of Copyright law to make and distribute copies of instructions or artwork.

5 Instructions 5. Piece your cut velvet pieces to muslin. a. Cut a piece of muslin approximately 16" x 22". Photo 1 b. Trace the pillow template onto your muslin using a permanent marker or fabric marker. See Photo 1. c. Lightly spray the back of your first embroidered velvet piece with temporary adhesive spray. d. Using the pillow layout guide as a reference, place the velvet onto your muslin in the appropriate location. See Photo 2. e. Stitch your velvet piece to the muslin, using a narrow zig-zag stitch all the way around the piece. See Photo 3 (backside). f. Continue stitching your velvet pieces to the muslin, adding them in numerical order. See Photos 4-7. Photo 2 Photo 3 Note: You may have gaps between your velvet pieces. As long as these gaps are ¼" or less, they will be completely covered by your ribbons. Photo 4 Photo 5 Photo 6 Photo Add Ribbons. a. Cut ribbons in strips long enough to cover your seams. You may want to experiment with layout of your ribbons to hide the tails of your ribbons as much as possible. b. Place the ribbon in the desired location over the seam and secure in place with adhesive spray, narrow double-sided basting tape, or pins. c. Using a very narrow zig-zag stitch, stitch down both sides of your ribbon. See Photo 8. d. Repeat until all seams are covered. See Photo Add the pillow back. a. Trim your pillow top to approximately 12" x 18". b. Place your 12" x 18" pillow back right sides together with the pillow top. c. Stitch around all four sides, leaving a 4" opening for turning and stuffing. See Photo 10. d. Turn the pillow through the opening. e. Stuff with a pre-made 12" x 18" pillow form, or create your own form from muslin and polyester fiber fill. f. Whipstitch the opening closed. 14. Enjoy your Chic Décor Pillow!
