Armo Weft Interfacing Isacord Polyester Embroidery Thread Organ or Bernina Embroidery Needle size 70/10 Sharp OESD HeavyWeight Cut-Away Stabilizer SUPPLIES NEEDED: 101 Quilt Basting Spray or 505 Temporary Spray Adhesive Sewing Thread 14 Zipper 3/8 yd muslin for pillow insert Polyfill Embroidery Machine Sewing Machine Zipper Foot Optional: Small rotating rotary board, rotary cutter, small square for trimming squares

4 PREPARE THE SILK Prepare the silk by fusing Armo Weft interfacing to the back of the silk. EMBROIDER THE PILLOW FRONT NOTE: The squares need to be 3 inches finished with the design in the center of the square. It is possible in most hoops to embroider more than one square at a time. Cut a piece of silk and two pieces of OESD HeavyWeight Cut-Away stabilizer large enough for your hoop. Spray one side of each piece of stabilizer. Lay the stabilizer sprayed side up and place the second piece of stabilizer sprayed side up on top of the first. Lay the silk on top of the sprayed stabilizer. Hoop all three pieces as one. Embroider the following: - Square A is design NB484_48 from the Swan Lace collection. - Square B is the same design mirrored horizontally. - 5 x A squares dark ivory - 3 x B squares dark ivory - 3 x A squares purple - 5 x B squares purple - 3 x A squares green - 3 x B squares green Cut the blue silk and two pieces of OESD Heavy- Weight Cut-Away 9½ x 13 ½, large enough for the large hoop. Spray one side of each piece of stabilizer. Lay the stabilizer sprayed side up and place the second piece of stabilizer sprayed side up on top of the first. Lay the silk on top of the sprayed stabilizer. Hoop all three pieces as one. Embroider the Swan Lace design NB467_48, centering the design on the fabric. See Photo 01 Photo 01 PIECE THE PILLOW FRONT Trim the embroidered squares to 3 finished size, with the design centered. See Photo 02 Photo 02 Trim excess stabilizer from the back of the embroidered squares. Trim the blue fabric with the embroidered swan to 8 ¼ x 10, centering the design. Trim excess stabilizer from the back of the embroidery. Arrange the embroidered squares using Diagram 1 Piece together five squares for the top border, using a 5/8 seam allowance. Press the seams open. Diagram 1 Sew the border to the top of the embroidered swan fabric rectangle. Repeat for the bottom. See Photo 03 (next page) Press the seams toward the center. Using Diagram 1 (above), piece together six squares for the side border, using a 5/8 seam allowance. Press the seams open.

5 Photo 03 Pin the pillow top to the back, right sides together. Sew with a 5/8 seam allowance. Trim the corners. Turn the pillow right side out. CONSTRUCT THE PILLOW INSERT Cut two pieces of muslin 12 x 13 5/8. Sew the muslin together with a 5/8 seam allowance, leaving a 5 opening on one side. Trim the corners. Turn the pillow insert right side out. Stuff the insert. Pin the opening together and topstitch closed. FINISH THE PILLOW Place the pillow insert into the Swan Lace Pillow. Enjoy! Sew the border to the side of the swan rectangle. Repeat for the other side. Press the seams toward the center. See Photo 04 Photo 04 CONSTRUCT THE PILLOW For the back of the pillow, cut the blue silk as follows: One 9 x 13 ½ rectangle One 5 x 13 ½ rectangle Interface both pieces with Armo Weft interfacing. Baste the 13 ½ sides together using a 1 seam allowance. Press the seam open. Insert the zipper following the manufacturer s instructions. Partially unzip the zipper.
