All rights reserved. Noah s Ark Baby Gift Instructions Give a basket of quick and easy baby items as a gift for the upcoming baby shower. The baby items include an embroidered onesie, burp cloth, baby bib, and receiving blanket featuring the Noah s Ark by Lesley Grainger #80051 embroidery collection. This cute and fun collection features appliqué so pull your stash of threads and fabrics. Decorate and add to the basket anything else a new baby would need. Supplies OESD Embroidery Collection Noah s Ark #80051 Mesh cut away stabilizer Medium weight tear away stabilizer Wash away topping Fusible knit interfacing 1 3/4 yds. fabric (cotton or flannel) 1 3/4 yds. lining (cotton or flannel) Scraps of several different colors of fabrics for appliqué Baby onesie 1" Velcro Snag Free Cut: as directed on pattern pieces for burp cloth and baby bib (1) 42"- 44" square fabric and lining (Receiving blanket) Round each corner of the squares of fabric (Receiving blanket) Ballpoint Embroidery needle Sharp Embroidery needle Embroidery threads Temporary spray adhesive Marking pen Double sided fabric tape Gift Basket and other decorating items Baby powder, lotion and anything else you want to add Embroider: For Baby Onesie: The design used for the baby onesie is the giraffe # Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two pieces of mesh cut away Photo 1 stabilizer. Hoop the two layers. Using the template, mark the center of the stabilizer. Also, mark the center of the onesie. Turn the onesie inside out. Spray the stabilizer in the hoop with temporary spray adhesive. Line up the center marks with the onesie and hooped stabilizer, baste onesie in place if available on embroidery machine. Embroider design following the basic appliqué instructions. NOTE: After the fabric appliqué tackdown is done, then place a piece of wash away over the fabric and onesie for a better stitch result. Photo 1. Remove from hoop and trim stabilizer. Remove wash away topping from front. Set aside. For Baby Bib: The design used for the baby bib is the alligator # Mark center of the baby bib. Place double sided fabric tape on the wrong side of the inner hoop. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two pieces of medium weight tear away and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of the baby bib. Using template in inner hoop, position onto center mark on bib, and hoop. See Photos 2 & 3. Place Photo 2 Photo 3 hoop on the embroidery machine and find center point. Using sharp embroidery needle, embroider design following the basic applique instructions. NOTE: If using a textured or napped fabric like flannel, you may want to place a piece of wash away topping on the bib as the legs and top of alligator stitch first

8 before the appliqué. Then remove when adding the applique. Remove baby bib from the hoop and each layer of stabilizer. Set aside. For Burp Cloth: The design used for the burp cloth is the elephant # Mark center of one of the ends of the burp cloth. Place double sided fabric tape on the wrong side of the inner hoop. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two pieces of medium weight tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the Noah s Ark Baby Gift Instructions wrong side of the burp cloth. Using template in the inner hoop, position onto center mark on burp cloth, and hoop. Photo 4. Place hoop on the embroidery machine and find center point. Embroider design following the basic applique instructions. NOTE: After the fabric applique tackdown is done, then place a piece of wash away topping over the fabric and burp cloth for a better stitch result if the fabric is textured or napped like flannel. Photo 5. Photo 6 Remove the burp cloth from the hoop and each layer of stabilizer. Set aside. For Receiving Blanket: The designs used for the receiving blanket are the ark # and the dove # They are stitched individually in two separate hoops. If you have a larger hoop, then you can stitch them in one hooping. Printed templates allowed for the placement of the designs and finding the center of the receiving blanket corner. Photo 6. On one corner of the receiving blanket, mark the center. Place double sided fabric tape on the wrong side of the inner hoop. Using temporary spray adhesive, spray between two pieces of medium weight tear away stabilizer and adhere to each other and to the wrong side of the receiving blanket. Using template in the inner hoop, position onto center mark on receiving blanket, and hoop. Photo 7. Place hoop on the embroidery machine and find center point. Embroider design following the basic applique instructions. Remove the receiving blanket from the hoop. If rehooping Photo 7 Photo 8 for dove, then make for sure you have enough stabilizer under the hoop and rehoop. Place wash away topping over the fabric if it is textured or napped. Embroider the dove. Photo 8. Remove the receiving blanket from the hoop and each layer of stabilizer. Set aside. Photo 4 Photo 5 Photo 10 Assembly & Finishing: ½" seam allowance For Baby Onesie: Using a small piece of fusible knit interfacing, iron it over the wrong side of the entire embroidered area. Photo 9. Photo 9 For Baby Bib: Right sides together, pin and stitch embroidered piece and lining piece, leaving an opening at the bottom center. Clip curves and turn right side out. Press. Topstitch. 9 Pull apart the 1" Velcro Snag Free pieces. Place one on the wrong side of the bib marking and the other one on the right side. Make sure they line up and Velcro closed. Stitch in place. Photos 11 & 12. For Burp Cloth: Right sides together, pin and stitch embroidered piece and lining piece, leaving an opening at one side. Clip curves and turn right side out. Press. Topstitch. Photo 13. For Receiving Blanket: Right sides together, pin and stitch embroidered piece and lining piece, leaving an opening. Clip curves at corners, and turn right side out. Press. Topstitch. Photo 14. Place gift items in basket and decorate as desired. Add a card and your gift basket is ready. 14 Pre-Cut Appliqué Instructions 1. Print out the necessary pages from the PDF of the appliquè pattern(s). 2. Mark the right side of the pattern pieces so you ll know which direction to lay the pattern on the fabric. 3. Lightly spray the wrong side of the pattern pieces with temporary adhesive spray and allow it to set for a few minutes. 4. Place the pattern pieces on the right side of the fabric and carefully cut them out. PHOTO 1 5. Sew the placement stitch on your hooped fabric. PHOTO 2 6. With the paper still stuck to the right side of the appliqué fabric, spray the wrong side of the fabric with temporary spray adhesive. 7. Place the fabric inside the sewing placement stitch so that it matches the stitching line, and then remove the paper pattern. PHOTO 3 8. Sew the tackdown. PHOTO 4 9. Sew the remainder of the design and repeat for any remaining pieces. PHOTO 5 NOTE: The patterns are sized for the designs as they were made. If you resize the design, you will need to resize the pattern the same amount. You can print out the pattern at the normal size then copy it on a copy machine at the changed size. For example, resize the designs to 80%, resize the printed pattern to 80%. TIP: When Printing the patterns, make sure that the Fit to page option is UNCHECKED in the Print Dialog Box.
