SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT I Act I: Goal setting [SCENE: Characters in circle with REEL Action Spinner. Girls are chatting and discussing options for the cookie PROCEEDS.] TRACY: HEATHER: JULIETTE: Maybe we could use our money to go to a really nice restaurant. You know get all dressed up... (interrupts TAMARA) Why daaahling! That s sounds absolutely wonderful but I think we can do better than that. Let s make it something huge! Make it something big! Make it something that we all really want to work for! Yeah! That s a great idea! How about a trip snow boarding? Better yet a trip to the beach! A trip is a great idea! But where would we all dream of going? (Girls take a second, begin to make eye contact, and then in unison) TRACY: HEATHER: HOLLYWOOD! HOLLYWOOD! HOLLYWOOD! HOLLYWOOD! HOLLYWOOD! (quickly realizes this may not happen for her) (Sam notices Mindy s shift in behavior) JULIETTE: HEATHER: Don t you think Hollywood is a great idea Mindy? Hollywood? Are you kidding? It s all great! It s just that well I don t think I am going to be able to sell cookies this year. My mom thinks I am just way too busy. Not sell cookies? (stunned and in shock) But selling cookies is so much fun! It s the best time for us! We all get to work together. Whether we make it to Hollywood or not selling cookies won t be the same without you! I don t know. I would hate missing out and besides what if we make it to Hollywood? Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp (interrupts) It s California! We can go to the beach! Go roller blading on the piers, check out one of the sports teams
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT I Act I: Goal setting (continued) TRACY: (interrupts) or SHOP! JULIETTE: TRACY: ALL: What if we all go together to talk to your mom? Mindy, we can t reach our goal without you! For us to really make it to Hollywood it is going to take each of us. Thanks for your help. It means a lot to me to know you support me. I ll talk to my mom again but I need to do this on my own I guess I didn t make it clear how important it is to me. That settles it! I know she will say yes! Look out world! We are Girl Scouts! We are here to sell cookies! We can make our goal! Hollywood Here we come! [ALL GIRLS ON STAGE SING] Rewrite a song you know to fit this theme.
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT II Act II: SET AND SHARE PERSONAL GOALS [MONOLOGUE] (holding hand mirror and goal reminder such as puppet or magnet) So this is supposed to be my goal reminder. Well, I want it to remind me to get over my shyness. Why do I have to be so shy? It was so hard to even suggest to Mindy that we could all talk to her mother. Oh I can see me now! Standing in the back hoping no one asks me to say something! No one notices the shy girl in the group. No one can miss Tracy all dramatic or Tamara and Heather so confident. I could probably crawl in a hole and no one would notice that the shy girl had disappeared. NOW we have this goal this huge goal! I would love to go to Hollywood! But being shy makes it so hard to ask people to sell cookies. (she takes a beat to think and look at herself in the mirror. She musters up courage) I can t let my team down... I can t let myself down! What s that? (mirror to ear) I m not ridiculously shy? Just generic shy? Well, thanks for saying so. Tell you what, we ll do our best to make one friend this cookie season. One friend is huge improvement from zero friends. It will be a lot easier to sell with a friend too! I can do this! I can make it happen! All right Hollywood HERE I COME! [SAM SINGS ON STAGE] Rewrite a song you know to fit this theme.
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT III Act III: HAVE A FAMILY MEETING [Mom making dinner when Mindy enters] MOM: um, Mom? Can I ask you something? Sure honey, what is it? My Girl Scout team is getting ready to sell cookies and... MOM: MOM: MOM: (cuts in) I know Mindy. We already discussed this. We had to make some tough decisions and selling cookies just won t fit in our schedule. It doesn t fit in between basketball and dance besides your school work has been suffering... I know mom... but I really need to help sell cookies this year because we picked a really awesome goal and it will take all of us selling to even come close to making it! Then I will write a check for your part and be finished with it. Mom, you don t understand. It s not about just writing the check. We all want to use our money to go to Hollywood! Can you imagine how good it will feel to know we all worked for something big and we made it happen? My leader says we will learn so much during the process that no check could cover it! I know I have a lot going on and I really want to fit it all in. I really think I can do it I just need your help! (music plays softly) Mindy, I hear you. I can see you care very much about this. How about let s see how it goes? You will have to make better choices with your time. If your grades do not come up or they slip even more then you are out of the cookie business? Do you understand? I won t let you down Mom! You ll see, I won t let the team down and I won t let ME down!
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT III Act III: HAVE A FAMILY MEETING (continued) This Time Starts as a solo VERSE 1 Can I really pull this all... together Can I make it? Did I set my goals too high? There s so much to do To make it right I feel the pressure building inside Can I really make it work out This time? VERSE 2 Oh, I know my team is counting on me Will I be there To help them reach our goal? But I can t let down My family They re also so important to me Can I really make it work out This time? BRIDGE One by one the others walk in singing, including the mom You can do it You can shine We all love you You ll be fine We ll be here You can lean on us VERSE 3 Still all singing Music builds You can really pull this all together I can make it (solo) My goal is now in sight (All again) So be true to you And those you love You ll know for sure Just what to do You can really make it work out This time (solo) Music slows to a confident end I can feel the pressure slipping away... I can really make it work out THIS TIME THIS TIME MY TIME We re all one big family Look around It s you and me We re all here Now you re free To fly...
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT IV Act IV: SELL BEYOND FAMILY AND FRIENDS [ALL CHARACTERS ON STAGE] TRACY: I can t believe it. We ve been selling for two weeks and still we haven t reached our goal! I sold to every single person in my family, my teachers and even that bratty kid who lives next door to me. I don t know another soul who will buy a box of cookies. Looks like Hollywood just isn t going to happen. Daaaarling, don t say such things! We have to keep at it. Our leader said that we have to sell beyond family and friends to reach our goals. (afraid) You mean sell to people we don t even know?? How would we do that, have a booth sale at the mall or something? ALL OTHER CHARACTERS: That s a great idea! JULIETTE: I ll bet there are lots of places we could sell cookies if we just thought about it. Let s brainstorm! HEATHER: Let s see, there s my yoga instructor... College students are always hungry! My sister s sorority would help us set up a booth on campus. JULIETTE: Come on, come on. What else... the park, grocery stores, our churches... TRACY: JULIETTE: HEATHER: We could set up a drive-thru in a bank parking lot. If you re shy about selling, it might even be easier to sell to people you don t know. We could sell where people tailgate before games or at practice fields. Yes! You know, to sell beyond our family and friends we re going to need lots of help from our family and friends. My dad works at home and he might help us a couple of days after school. My grandmother and I both like art. I ll see if she ll help me make some cool posters and set up a great booth. Now that my mom understands how important this is to me she has really gotten into selling cookies. She took me to choir practice at our church and even to her hair salon! Maybe my mom could help chaperone a booth at the mall.
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT IV Act IV: SELL BEYOND FAMILY AND FRIENDS (continued) JULIETTE: When we all use our talents and focus on one goal I know we can make it happen! So everyone clear your schedule- we are all about selling this weekend! Let s get these boxes loaded. (as girls clear the stage Sam notices Mindy worrying a little) [MINDY AND SAM TO FRONT OF STAGE] Mindy, it seems like something is bothering you. Are you worried about making our goal? No, I just remembered I have a huge math test on Monday and I m having a hard time with some of the stuff that s going to be on it. I m pretty good at math maybe... you... could come over to my house and we could work on it together! Wow. That would be great. Are you sure? Absolutely! (grab boxes and exit) Girls come back out with booth parts HEATHER: Are we ready to start selling? ALL of us.. Together! [ALL CHARACTERS SING] Rewrite a song you know to fit this theme. 10
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT V Act V: CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS! [ALL CHARACTERS ON STAGE] (Lights come up. Booth is set up and two Rotten Cookies are sitting in front of the booth eating cookies. Other Rotten Cookies are in the audience talking on cell phones, bullying audience members to buy cookies.) Stephanie: Omose: (in audience) Hey! You! Buy some of these cookies! (in audience) Are you sure you don t want some of the sugar free cookies? (Two girls begin to have a scuffle on the stage) Olivia: Megan G: Candice: Madeline: I saw that guy first he s buying from ME! Oh no you didn t! He s my customer! (proceed to scuffle) (takes a bite and puts it back in the box) I don t like these kind yuck! Gross! (talks with mouthful) Me either. I only like the Tagalongs. [In audience] Ariel: (on phone) Oh my gosh Bobby. I can t wait to see you either. (She notices an audience member and holds up her finger to make them wait. Then, without getting off the phone, she says... ) What? You want some cookies? The booth is up there... Anyway, Bobby... [Enter good cookies] Tracy: Juliett: Tamara: Sam: Maggie: Maddie: What are those girls doing by our booth? I know Mindy s mom got permission from the mall. We just need to ask them nicely to move to another spot. Excuse me! Yeah? What? Sam: We uh... were... Mindy: We asked for this spot and you are selling in front of our booth. 11
SAMPLE SCRIPT: ACT V Act V: CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESS! (CONTINUED) Maggie: (Rotten Cookies leave in a huff) You know what, I don t even care! These stupid people won t buy any cookies anyway. Come on, girls. (Girls grab boxes and start selling to the audience the correct way with some fast instrumental music ) Heather: Juliette: Tamara: Mindy: Sam: Tracy: All: Hi, would you like to buy some cookies? You re on a diet? Well we have the Sugar Free Little Brownie cookies. Three boxes? Great! Cookies make great gifts. Or freeze them and have a Tagalong on a hot summer day! I love Thin Mints. If you crumble them up, they are great on top of ice cream! Your daughter is away at college? Well, she would love to get a care package with her favorite cookies! We have a great alternative if you don t prefer cookies for yourself. You can purchase boxes of cookies for our local police and firefighters and we will deliver the cookies to them! (standing on the stage) Trefoils! Samoas! Come get your Girl Scout Cookies! Only once a year! Thank you for supporting the Girl Scouts! (Rush to booth where mom is sitting and counting. Music plays as tension builds. Mom writes a number on a piece of paper, then passes it to Tamara, who passes it to Juliette, who passes it to the next girl and so on. Each girl is too afraid to look at it. Finally, Sam takes the paper.) Sam: Tamara: Mindy: Tracy: Well... I guess we need to just pack... OUR SUITCASES! WE RE GOING TO HOLLYWOOD! I can t believe we did it! We really are a team! Hollywood here we come! 12
