2 THE 4-WAY TEST Of the Things we Think, Say or Do: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Object of Rotary: The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her personal, business and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of service. Rotary Humor An elderly couple, who were both widowed, had been going out with each other for a long time. Urged on by their friends, they decided it was finally time to get married. Before the wedding, they went out to dinner and had a long conversation regarding how their marriage might work. They discussed finances, living arrangements and so on. Rotarian of the Year Mark Henshaw Finally, the old gentleman decided it was time to broach the subject of their physical relationship. 'How do you feel about sex?' he asked, rather tentatively. 'I would like it infrequently' she replied. The old gentleman sat quietly for a moment... leaned over towards her and whispered 'Is that one word...or...two?' 5 Rotary Club of Del Mar has supported Shelter Box for several years, which provides families who have lost everything in a disaster with emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies. Our donations have helped to serve families in Sri Lanka, Haiti, Ethiopia, and Pakistan. Every year, hundreds of thousands of families across the world lose everything when disasters strike. Through no fault of their own and often with no warning, families lose their homes, their possessions and their livelihoods. Every day they are faced with a battle for survival and Shelter Box's mission is to help them. Del Mar's box ID number is and you can see where it has been deployed on the ShelterBox website here. Just click on "Track Your Box" and search by box number. ShelterBox is the premier international aid organization that provides emergency shelter and life-saving equipment following disasters such as earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict. ShelterBox was founded in 2000 on a very simple principle: the right to life and dignity. We asked, "What would a family need to survive if they lost their home?" This question became a quest to provide a compact, universal tool kit to families displaced by disasters. ShelterBox would afford dignity, self-sufficiency and most importantly, human survival in the chaotic weeks following an earthquake, tsunami, landslide, flood or other disaster. The top priority of many aid organizations is to provide food, water and medical care to help people survive the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Without protection from the elements, survivors are at a higher risk as they await nourishment or medical attention. We recognized that little or no assistance was given in terms of proper shelter to help them through the first few days, weeks and months as they tried to rebuild their lives. In response, ShelterBox developed a solution to help disaster survivors during the critical period following a disaster but preceding reconstruction.
