She began painting with Janet Nunn in 2003, and has taken workshops from several local and nationally know artists. Jan exhibits her artwork at Shack Man Glass & Gallery(Denver) and The Marble Gallery (Marble, CO). Jan is President of the Arvada Fine Arts Guild; a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society; and a member of Foothills Art Center and the North Metro Arts Alliance. Ralph Waldo Emerson uses these words to elegantly express his "take" on the subject. " A work of art is an abstract or epitome of the world. It is the result or expression of nature in miniature.... Nature is a sea of forms radically alike and even unique. A leaf,, a sunbeam, a landscape,, the ocean, make an analogous impression on the mind. What is common to them all - that perfectness and harmony, is beauty. The standard of beauty is the entire circuit of natural forms, - the totality of nature.... A single object is only so far beautiful as it suggests this universal grace. The poet, the painter, the sculptor, the musician, the architect, seek each to concentrate this radiance of the world on one point,...to satisfy the love of beauty which stimulates him to produce. Thus is Art a nature passed through the alembic (I had to look that one up) of man. " Wow! That's pretty humbling. Enjoy your creating.
