DISTRICT 105E Convention In this Update E Supplement you ll find a brief round up of a most amazing weekend at Belvoir Castle and how the Vale of Belvoir Lions worked closely with our District Governor Lion Paul Stafford to make our 2016 District Convention such a memorable and successful event... A friendly enthusiastic welcome and slick organisation by the Vale of Belvoir Lions (above) helped to make this Convention a total success Apart from an account on page 2, by the Convention Credentials Officer Lion Phil Salathiel, the story of our Convention is brought to you here in pictures, a few captions and some quotes from Lions and partners who attended. Hopefully everyone will get a feel for what happened... mere words could not begin to describe this wonderful event enjoyed by all who were there. Perhaps you ll be able to sense the happiness and warmth that was generated throughout the entire weekend.

.. Hard to believe that it was just over 12 months ago when the Vale of Belvoir Lions Club was handed the Convention flag at the conclusion of the Business session held at Oaklands Hall Hotel.

After many, many months in the planning 105E 2016 Convention weekend arrived this really was the point of no return for the Vale of Belvoir Lions Club, its members and friends.

We were mindful of the logistical problems of the Host hotel (Wyndham Garden) being located some 13 miles away from the Business session location and that several suitable presentation rooms and

Hard to believe that it was just over 12 months ago when the Vale of Belvoir Lions Club was handed the Convention flag at the conclusion of the Business session held at Oaklands Hall Hotel. We were fulfilling an earlier invitation from Her Grace the Duchess of Rutland, herself an Honorary Lion, to consider holding an annual Convention at Belvoir Castle. After many, many months in the planning 105E 2016 Convention weekend arrived this really was the point of no return for the Vale of Belvoir Lions Club, its members and friends. Lion Phil Salathiel Building on the prestigious location the club worked extremely hard to present a weekend full of friendship and fun. We were mindful of the logistical problems of the Host hotel (Wyndham Garden) being located some 13 miles away from the Business session location and that several suitable presentation rooms and floor space were located over two floors at the Castle. To compound matters, given that the building has a status as a Grade 1 listed building, it was never designed to be a Conference Centre and there were also no lift facilities. Belvoir Castle - a splendid setting for Convention We had a real fun Host night on the Friday with a Night at the Races plenty of audience participation, lots of laughter along the way and all enjoyed by over 70 Lions and partners. We are indebted to the Boundary Mill Store for partnering the Club, helping with sponsorship and donating a very generous prize. I m certain that the content of our Business session will be reported on and communicated to you all in other ways so, I ll move on to the Banquet which was held in the splendour of the The Castle s State Dining room. Host night fun At The Races At our Banquet we were honoured and delighted to have the company of Her Grace, the Duchess of Rutland Lion Emma and International Guest Past Council Chair, Lion Elisabeth Haderer from the Netherlands. Arriving at the castle guardroom with two log fires burning fiercely was warmly welcoming. A glass of fizz, courtesy of DG Lion Paul, then into the dining room resplendent in candle-light and steeped in history. Good food and company throughout, further presentations with musical accompaniment, dancing girls (Ann Stafford and Anne Simons) and the grand finale from the Opera Dudes. What a night what a performance and, as promised, Neil and Tim [The Opera Dudes] blew everybody away with their wide repertoire and audience participation! Carriages at midnight and as the two coaches left on the journey through the castle grounds for the last time on its return to the hotel a time to smile and reflect on a great and, as promised, memorable Convention. Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way shape or form to make the weekend such a huge success. Time for a sharp intake of breath...!

4 ...and so on to Saturday - A CONVENTION IN A CASTLE! Symbolic flags adorning the grand entrance area were accompanied by welcoming smiles A welcome for the Duchess (Lion Emma) even though she was in her own home Entry of District Officers behind the District Flag Excellent weekend, friendship, fun, meeting old friends and sharing new ideas - a very short business meeting!!! A DG s friendship banner for Her Grace Duchess Emma Working through the agenda It s all been more interesting than ever - Inspiring!

5 An inspiring presentation on the formation of the Southwell Minster Leo Club was delivered by joint Leo Presidents Sarah Burke (right) and Beccy Pritchett, Assistant Head Teacher Nicole Lyons, Lion Keith Hobbs and Lion President John Horsefall TIME TO LEARN... a selection of seminars provided opportunity for everyone to learn more about a wide variety of Lions topics TIME TO RELAX... and be totally at ease in the wonderful warmth of the atmosphere My best day as a Lion - ever!

6 There was even a visit by the Belvoir Hunt... PDG Bob Coxhead and Lion Tom Lakin managed a quick inspection before returning to Convention Business Zone Chairs were invited to make a special entry into the Convention Hall Numerous trophies and awards were handed out to recognise individual and Club achievements... these are but a few Today I ve discovered so much more about what individuals and Clubs are doing... It s made me feel even prouder to be a Lion

7 After the presentation of awards the District s newly elected Leaders of the future were introduced... Left - 1st Vice District Governor Elect Lion Balvinder Sohki MBE and his wife Parvina Below - 2nd Vice District Governor Elect Lion Stephen Green and his wife Lion Lucia Skegness Lions were charged with the safe keeping of the District Flag until our 2017 Convention which is to be held at Skegness What a day this has been... I m going home feeling refreshed and even more determined to try to make a difference where I can And so it was on to the final part of a great day... The Convention Banquet in the splendid surroundings of the Castle s State Dining Room, once again with a very warm welcome from Her Grace The Duchess Lion Emma

8 The evening s celebrations culminated in a number of well deserved awards being made and a happy time being enjoyed by all DG Lion Paul was recognised by members of his home Club (Lincoln) who proudly presented him with a Melvin Jones Fellowship Award The memories of the DG s Banquet will stay with me for many years... It was a majestic event and a fitting finale to a really stupendous weekend... it s all been just wonderful
