Topics to be studied: Materials and Components Design and Market Influence Processes and Manufacture Develop and communicate design ideas using annotated sketches, detailed plans, 3-D modelling and computer-based tools Select from and use specialist tools, techniques, processes, equipment and machinery precisely, including computer-aided manufacture Test, evaluate and refine their ideas and products against a specification, taking into account the views of intended users and other interested groups Assessment points and tasks Written feedback points Learning Outcomes (tested at the end and related to subject competences) Page 1 of 5

2 AO1 Recall, select and communicate knowledge and understanding in design and technology including its wider effects. AO2 Apply knowledge, understanding and skills in a variety of contexts and in designing and making products. AO3 Analyse and evaluate products, including their design and production. 2 practice MOCK exams End of unit test will be GCSE paper in June Data will be collected for the results of each section to support feedback/highlighting areas for improve. Aims of the project: Be able to identify common papers such as layout, cartridge, tracing, grid, card, corrugated card, duplex board, solid white board, foam core board; Be able to identify common timbers such as pine, mahogany, teak, ash, beech used in the manufacture of products Be able to identify common manufactured boards i.e. MDF, plywood, chipboard, blockboard, hardboard Have a knowledge and understanding of smart materials and their variety of uses including nanotechnology Identify ways in which products evolve over time Learn about processes and product manufacture Have an understanding of the stock forms for metal and timber Understand that differences between thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics Able to identify common electronic and mechanical components and understand their functions and uses Able to answer question paper relating to materials, product evolution, developing ideas, manufacturing processes, design & sustainability issues, packaging etc Page 2 of 5
